DINNER 🍽: @the_sandbar
Part of the sequoia company which includes cardero's, the Stanley park tea house, and seasons, this restaurant is definitely on the higher end of the fine dining restaurants here in Vancouver. Situated on Granville island, the main floor has a sushi bar owned by the same company that is available on the Sandbar menu as well. It is decorated with a fitting nautical theme, as it's right next to the water and serves mainly seafood dishes, yet it still has a classy ambience and live piano music. It's a large restaurant with multiple levels and a gorgeous heated patio with an incredible view.
ALDERWOOD GRILLED MISO MARINATED SABLEFISH:
I'd heard word that they serve some of the best sablefish around, perfectly cooked every time, so I was quite set on trying this and let me tell you, this was one of the few times I was left practically speechless- yes, it was that good. The fish was cooked to perfection, with a texture so smooth it practically melts in your mouth. The miso ginger glaze, caramelized with the fish, gave it a perfect balance of sweetness without overpowering it completely. The plating was basic, with the sablefish served over a bed of coconut jasmine rice and a side of seasonal vegetables, however it all blended beautifully with the miso glaze and left me wanting more. It's not the biggest portion, considering it's $35, but if you want to treat yourself I highly recommend giving it a try. You won't regret it.
