Day 12: Fort Nelson, Canada - What A Pleasant Suprise!

Today was a pretty good day in Fort Nelson. We got some pretty decent sleep last night, then got up and put in a full day of work. It was pretty nice, not having to worry about getting on the road afterwards, we may be on to something here.
#
After work, we decided to do a little exploring. Our neighbors told us about the bike paths here, so we went off to ride some of them. Candace wanted a bell for her bike (bears), so we hit up a local bike shop and hit the trail – it was a pretty good little ride, about 10K.
After the ride, we hit up a little gym called Iron Alley – perfect for us, decent equipment, and a good workout.
#
This evening, we cooked some food and relaxed. May even get an episode of Game of Thrones in. Hoping to get to bed early and get some sleep.

All in all, Fort Nelson has been a pretty nice little stop. They’re well set up for travelers – great visitors center, two RV dump/water stations, a recreation center complete with pool, indoor track, and rock climbing wall, and some decent biking/hiking trails. They even have a nice little park with some water attractions for the kids!

While Chris and I were in Seattle this weekend we decided to check out MoPop. They have lots of cool exhibits but our favorite was the new Jim Henson Exhibition. They even have an area where you can practice making videos with some real puppets. It was pretty fun. I'm a huge Labyrinth fan so I loved seeing the iconic outfits from the movie. Driving the Alcan Hwy- Alaska Bound: Day 11

Tired…that’s how we were feeling yesterday. Getting up early to match our Eastern time zone work schedule, combined with driving 250-300 miles a day…Yep, tired. We drove from Dawson Creek to Fort Nelson yesterday, and it was a pretty good drive.
#
The road was in pretty good shape, with minimal construction and gravel. With that being said, we did hit the gravel during a rain storm, so our truck and trailer are a mess. There were some steep grades, thank goodness for an engine brake to control descent. Along the way, we had pretty good internet and data connectivity, so Candace was able to work.
#
We started the day out with a phone call to Triple G Hideaway RV Park, and they reserved us a pull thru spot with just a name and phone number. Park is in good condition, friendly staff, and right in town, so super convenient. We rode our bikes to the store….and it was a short ride.
#
All in all, yesterday was pretty uneventful…well, except the black bear jogging across the road about 20 miles out of Fort Nelson. The second bear we’ve seen so far.
#
We did see another Black Bear 🐻 hauling tail across the road!
#
Internet/Cell Service at the RV park seems to be pretty good – probably fastest we’ve had for days. I’d stay here again, so if you’re in the area, give it a shot.

Four months ago we were in Las Vegas and just had to take a day trip to @zionnps. A day is nowhere near enough but it's all the time we had so we took it! Zion will always have a special place in our hearts. Kevin proposed to me at Weeping Rock 4 years ago so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to go back and also explore a new trail while we were there (Hidden Canyon - we loved it and recommend it!) We cannot wait to be back in Zion!! Nature and hiking are calling our name! We must answer! 😄

New Video on the YT==> #AlaskaBound Day 10- We drove from Hinton, AB to Dawson Creek, BC today. We took Highway 40, which was a pretty good drive. It’s advertised as the “scenic route” to Alaska, but really, there were only about 50 miles that were better than average. Once we got to Grand Prairie, the road opened up, and the area is beautiful.
#
Apparently, the fields around there are full of flowering Canola right now, so it made for some nice, scenic farmland. I don’t think Canola is the actual plant, but the end result.
#
We ended up at a Walmart parking lot in Dawson Creek. Before we called it a night, we drove another 20 miles or so up the road to a boondocking site on the old Alaska Highway, but the cell service was nearly non-existent. While there, we drove down to the Kiskatinaw Bridge, which is an old, rickety, curved wooden bridge…even drove across it!
#
After the extra adventures, we didn’t actually call it a night till almost midnight…Late, especially considering the farther west we go, the earlier we have to get up for our work.
