Been pondering the idea of contrast as a necessary part of recuperation. That recovery, healing, or improving our status quo requires that we do something different. So with 4.5 months into this mothering, nursing, forward-leaning carry angle of love marathon, I go outside. Stand tall and embrace the sun on my chest. Put Fern in the stroller and we stroll - some combo of walking and running - for about 30-75 minutes per day. I let my shoulders drop and melt, my spine swirl and swish with each stride, sliding my lungs and lubricating my hips as well as my creativity, autonomy, and patience while she either checks out the tree tops or sleeps. I know so many other fine, detailed and technical practices like mudra, mantra, meditation, Franklin Method, Yoga - and I love those, too - but the thing I crave is movement through S P A C E. And sweat. Not that I ever didn't know this about myself, but it becomes all the more essential lately when it's a prescription to help me process what still feels untouchable, and to boost my capacity for self compassion. I'm getting closer to sharing more of our birth story, but for now I'm rewriting parts of it for myself. Studying my relationship to the memories, expectations, the scars on my body, mind and heart. I know there is gold here for me, and perhaps all women for whom months later they are still making sense of or peace with it. And meanwhile, we move. Body in motion, fluid emotions. 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

Today I started out on six mile run, without a phone, planning to enjoy a relaxing run by myself. At 5 miles in, realized I had no idea how to get back and I was lost. When I finally got some help with directions, I discovered I was alot further than I thought. I could have easily gotten discouraged at that point and called someone to pick me up. But I decided to push myself harder, to use that challenge to rise above. Instead of slowing down I picked up the pace and was surprised by how quickly I could go. When I missed my turn, and realized for a second time that I had a lot longer to go...I felt ready to give up. Somehow I mustered up the strength to just keep on pushing and I made it back faster than I ever thought possible. I love this picture I took at the end because it reminds me of the same message.... My baby Nava who ran with me during the marathon and made sure I didn't stop! And those rainbows shining in the corner, cuz at the end of a thunderstorm, there's always rays of color and sunshine #runningthemarathonoflife #nevergiveup
