Whew!
Originally I wanted to run this race, blow it out of the water and get that sub 3:20!
However, all plans changed when I got to SC and it was calling for crazy winds, rain and COLD!
My mindset changed to just run and have fun!
ZERO expectations!

The marathon as you all know is tricky!
Each one holds a special place and teaches you a little something about yourself!
Today I ran marathon number 6, SIX (in 2 years)!!
I’m a marathoner y’all,
I love the feeling of the first few miles, the middle miles, and those last miles where you question everything, you fight hard physically and mentally and swear you’re never doing it again!!
Who am I kidding though!
We are already planning the next one, and then Boston!

Today was incredible!!!! I PR'd my OVERALL half marathon time while pushing Taylor in the stroller!!!! So proud of my tiny running partner - who squealed on the downhills, and clapped her hands at every dog we saw along the course - she was amazing. Happy happy happy. ✨1:45:59 - and my proudest PR to date!

Seeing all the pictures of everyone at the #dallasbmwmarathon and remembering back to ONE year ago when I decided to run my first postpartum marathon just 4 months 3 weeks and 2 days after having this baby 🙈 .
It was by far my slowest marathon. I cried at mile 19 when I saw my baby and just wanted to go home with him. Everything hurt and I thought my breastfeeding boobs were going to explode😬🤷‍♀️ but I pushed through till the end and am stronger for it. I’m pretty sure I felt like I could conquer the world after this. 👊🏼
Q: What was your first postpartum race back?

I just really love winter running. Even if it means no fancy run shots. Or freezing and sweating and then freezing from the sweat all over again in the same run. It’s gotten the best of me in years past. But my heart is just really full now.

14 miles at 8:41 pace. 42.8 miles for the week which is going to drive me crazy. 😩

My first marathon was 21 months ago, and since then, I’ve ran NINE! It’s kind of hard to believe!

My finish times have all been between 3:46 (my first) when I had no clue what I was doing, to my current PR of 3:23! Every single marathon has been a gift and also all very different!

I’ll NEVER forget my first marathon— or the first time I knew for certain I secured Boston!

I LOVE running. I love marathons— there’s something special about the distance. Hard enough to really push yourself pace wise and the distance but long enough that pushing the pace + the distance hurts! Am I right?!

My hubby and I finally got our home clean and for the first time in forrrrrever, all the laundry is done. I realize with a party of five this won't last long, so it's part of my documentation today. 😜😆

After the #hotchocolate15k today, took an epson salt bath and a nap and still made it to the gym for Sunday #backandshoulders. Didn't want to go, but it had to be done. #stlrunner #runnermom #consistency

Ingredients

3/4 cup + 2 tbsp natural peanut butter
2 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon maple syrup
2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup almond flour
1 tablespoon coconut flour
a pinch of salt
3-4 tablespoons raspberry, strawberry or another chia seed jam of choice!

Chia seed jam: 1 cup blended raw fruit (I used raspberries) 1/4 C chia seeds. Mix together and allow to sit for 1 hour, stirring every 20 min or so.

Directions

In a small mixing bowl, stir together the nut butter, maple syrup, coconut oil, and vanilla extract. Add the almond flour, coconut flour2 and salt and stir until combined. If it's too soft to roll into balls, place in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
Roll into 20-gram balls (about 1") and place on a parchment-lined plate. Create an indentation with the back of a 1/2 teaspoon measuring spoon (or create whatever size indentation you'd like).
Fill each with 1/2 teaspoon jam (or however much you'd like).
Refrigerate for about 2 hours until firm and then serve. These need to be kept refrigerated or frozen.

FATIGUE. EXHAUSTION. DEPLETION. This is easily one of the top reasons women seek care from their physicians. The mistake is to assume these people simply ‘need more sleep’. In reality, few people seek care when they can easily refresh with a nap or an earlier bedtime. But, DEEP FATIGUE, is becoming all too common. Causes can be decades of undersleeping, poor nourishment leading to deficiencies, long term use of medications( don’t forget oral conception is one of the most depleting out there!), pregnancies, unsupported postpartum healing, years of breastfeeding, stress levels without any cessation, endocrine disruption... this can involve thyroid and/ or adrenal abnormalities...the list is long and arduous! To evaluate these struggling patients takes time and often a complex approach of labs and lifestyle changes. However, too often these patients have been slighted and have been given medications to treat insomnia, depression, adult onset ADHD, anxiety, chronic pain and other vague symptoms that don’t match what is really happening- a complete breakdown in the body’s physiology. Is this you? You aren’t crazy- but you are exhausted.

Only 3 weeks until my training plan for the London Marathon starts and I’m still waiting for the all clear from my physio to run again after picking up an injury five weeks ago at Wine and Dine Weekend, so this weeks focus is going to be lots of strength training and other forms of cardio to keep my fitness levels up!... I can’t wait for this weeks PT session either! 💪🏽♥️

Ever heard of other people's testimony of God's grace? This is my testimony that God is THE ALMIGHTY FATHER who gave me a second chance to live. One week ago, there could not have been a baby in the picture, a smiling toddler, nor the author of this long post 🤤. Imagine if I did not have contractions the day before my scheduled cesearean section, the baby and I would be drowning in my own blood. Imagine if I wasn't a runner, I will not bounce back within 24 hours in the ICU nor recovered quicker. Imagine if we do not have family and/or friends to take care of Hana for six days, who prayed with us and supported my husband who was waiting outside IR (while I was going through Uterine Artery Embolization) and thinking of what if I did not make it alive. Imagine if baby Nico did not latch on my breasts while I was on the surgery table and PACU nor refused formula in the 24 hours I was away from him. Imagine if Dr. Madhavi Vemulapalli did not have the best teams on two separate procedures that I've gone through in one day. Imagine if John Muir Hospital Walnut Creek did not have the equipment, medical team (Gerald F. Katz, MD; IRA FINCH, MD; AAMIR FARUQUI, MD; KENNETH BROWN, MD; ERIC BUADU, MD; Eman Haidari, MD)and nurses/lactation nurses/techs, hospital staff, quick response, and clear communication. Imagine if my sister-in-law, Juliet, did not rush out of my room to call for help! Imagine if I do not have JP as my husband who loves me with all of him, who stayed with me all throughout, and communicated with everyone. Imagine there was no God who created everything. Can you imagine? God was there from the beginning. I know that He still has a purpose for me in life that He spared my life. I am thankful and truly blessed. Let's all welcome Nico Chase Vaal! I felt so relaxed the week leading up to my marathon yesterday and my week even included flying to a conference. Hard to describe the relaxed feeling. I wondered am I too relaxed ? Why do I feel this way? Am I underestimating the marathon? It was a surreal feeling. I laid in bed Saturday morning before my warm up and wrote down these thoughts (posted). I glanced at them just now... I think my feelings leading up to this marathon meant I was relaxed and ready. Yet I ran the marathon very cautious worried something would go wrong. I chatted the whole way until I decided to pick it up at mile 3. I believed and I achieved. ... 3:12

The days after race day...

You spend the hours, days and maybe even weeks after thinking what could I have done differently??

I haven’t done that this time...I don’t have any what if’s or should haves and it feels amazing!!
Yesterday at mile 3 I pulled my sleeve down over my watch and never looked at it again!
I didn’t want to know!
I didn’t care!
After deciding that I wasn’t going for a sub 3:20 Friday, I took all pressure off and just ran it by feel!
I’ve been wanting to do that!
I obviously had the clocks on the course, but y’all when I’m running, there is no way I’m doing math!
So I had no idea what my splits were or possible finish time!

I truly am so glad I just let go of all expectations, went with the weather and the course, ran comfortably and added another 26.2 to my journey!

I’m hoping to take some time off from training - run less miles and cross train the next few weeks, then pick up my favorite training plan and race again in March (probably)!
That’s the plan for now anyways!
Life happens and things could change!

If you want to reach your goals, you need to do whatever it takes and stop the excuses. -Get up before the kids are up. -Stay up an hour later.
-Scroll Facebook less. -Stop watching so much TV (**raises hand**)
-Put in extra time on the weekends. -Give up that expensive item you want or usually get.

If you are reading this, make a commitment to start growing as a person and decide that if you want it bad enough you will FIND a way.

You probably won't feel like doing it at the time.
