I’m returning to my #triathlon roots in September when I line up for @nationstriathlon. I got into the sport after college while working in DC thanks to #dctriclub eventsβ€”a great way to meet athletically-inclined people and enjoy friendly competition after your competition days are over, or so I thought.

I repped @dctriclub at club nationals in 2008 & acc to that big bottle of wine, I had a good race. Afterwards, our group hit up the strip and danced most of the night, then sleepily & sorely milled around Vegas for a day before our red eye flight back East. That must have been a rough day at the office (and by that I mean an actual office). I digress... excited to ride and run the familiar roads at #nationstri. Marine Lance Cpl. Travis M. Nelson died August 18, 2011, serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The Lance Cpl. died on August 18 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Lance Cpl. Nelson was 19 from Pace, Florida. Today, my 13 mile run is dedicated to you, Lance Cpl. Nelson. Each week throughout my training for the @marinecorpsmarathon, my long run will be dedicated to a fallen Marine.

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE πŸŽ‰
Today is a well needed rest day - but I did get a little speed work in yesterday by celebrating tempo Thursday! 1 mi warm up, 4.5 miles at tempo (~7:15) and then 1 mi cooldown (unpictured). I'm pretty proud of this effort as my legs were definitely tired and I still managed to hit the tempo pace and even get a little bit faster for the last half mile! -----------------------------------------
Anyone have any super exciting Friday plans? Or are you all like me - planning an early bedtime so you can get up at the crack of dawn for Saturday long run?? πŸ˜‚

Easy three miles early this morning. This deer came out of the brush and jogged next to me for a few seconds. The path is not *that* wide so I was 😬 but then she swerved off after reminding me that (1) even her shoulder is taller than me and (2) her 0 to Frolic is faster than my full sprint, so thanks for the humility and see you soon, friend. πŸ‘‹πŸ½

Friday Fit Tip: Wall sits are great for building quad strength. Believe it or not a lot of runners have weak quads! Weak quads can lead to dreaded runner’s knee. Stand with your back against the wall with feet and knees hip width apart and feet pointed straight ahead. Walk your feet away from the wall and slide your body down at same time. You will be seated in an invisible chair. Your hips should be slightly higher than your knees and ankles slightly ahead of your knees. Back should be completely flat against the wall with weight in your heels. Happy Friday!! After taking a rest day on Thursday, I got up early this morning and started off with strength training. Then I went outside in the super humid conditions and ran 5 miles. My heat training is paying off because I didn't feel like I was suffering through the humidity on this run, just getting soaked in sweat! When I get stressed or worried about training or a race, I remember the phrase from The Lion King.....Hakuna Matata! Keep rocking your training runs and workouts! Have a fun and safe weekend! We got this!!
