I don't know if it was the 9 1/2 hours of sleep I got last night or the week off from running, but today's bike/run brick was solid.πŸ‘ŒπŸ½After 2 hours on the trainer, I took off for a 3 mile run. Interestingly, after the initial 2 min of feeling like Bambi learning how to walk, 🦌I settled into an 8:30 pace that felt very easy. Anyone else experience this? Win-win situation today. I got to explore a new river trail after work that stretched on for what looked like forever to the naked eye. Spoiler alert: πŸ’πŸ½I followed it all the way to the end - forever ended up being 2.5 miles. Hopped in my nugget πŸš™ and hit zero traffic heading back home into the city. Heck yes, I'm happy! Today's mantra was, "bring on the pain." Some days I run because I intentionally want to feel some pain. It's the fastest way to feel truly alive. Runners have masochistic tendencies, no? .

Now that I have a trainer set up in my living room, I literally have no excuse not to ride my bike. Biking is my weakest sport, so putting time in the saddle is my main goal. Sometimes I have a specific time, sometimes it's as long as my πŸ‘can handle. After a stressful beginning of the week, all I wanted to do was nap when I got home from work. I lay down for 5 min and then reminded myself that napping wasn't going to help get me towards my future goals. Hopped on the trainer and got in 50 min of aerobic riding. It wasn't an enthusiastic, smiley workout kind of day, but it got done and that's what counts! πŸš΄πŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ‘ŠπŸ½#triathlontraining #bikestagram

Hot, happy, sunshine-y miles today! β˜€οΈπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ˜ŠCut my long run mileage in half this week to stay on the cautious side with my shin pain. There's such a fine line between pushing your limits and getting injured. It's always a learning process - the ability to respect the warning signs, leave your ego at the door, & back off training when your body needs to rest and repair itself. As I've been ramping up my mileage, I've also been ramping up my nap game! 😴My body doesn't recover like it did in my 20's. πŸ˜†This week was heavy on the workouts due to having more free time from the 4th holiday. An hour ride on the trainer to start the day and four wonderful sunset miles to end it. After coming off the third consecutive whirlwind weekend away, it's so nice to be home. I feel at ease. First long run of this training cycle and longest run since Boston. Aside from the lack of sleep coming off a bachelorette weekend, this run actually went well! I procrastinated getting out the door this afternoon, but everything felt pretty much A-OK once I got a few miles in. Training during the summer can get crazy with all the weekends away/festivities. But the truth is, there's never going to be a "right time" or better time. Don't wait! I left work today carrying more emotional baggage than usual. Instead of fighting it, I used it to fuel my workout. I thought a lot about the idea that comparing ourselves to others is often what makes us very unhappy. This is true. But I also believe that comparing ourselves to ourselves can be dangerous when it's done in a negative and judgmental way. We are often our own worst critics, and can beat ourselves up without the added outside influence. . .
