Sometimes things spontaneously happen that stir up feelings inside us. It's up to us to decide whether or not to embrace these moments or ignore them. Running makes me feel vulnerable in a way where, no matter how fast I run, I can't escape it. Today, I thought about the power of vulnerability. To run and be free. To let yourself be seen. To love with your whole heart even though there's no guarantee. To practice gratitude and joy. And to believe that you're enough. Now that's true strength. 💜💚💛❤️

Ran straight through a torrential downpour and loved every second of it. 🌧My first run back in a little over two weeks - post-elbow break - felt odd but wonderful all at once! 30 minutes at a very cautious 9:43 pace. My body was feeling the 32's today, and I was definitely A-ok with that! 2,300 yard swim @ 1:32/100 🏊🏼‍♀️ + 3.5 mile run @ 8:32 pace. 🏃🏽‍♀️Chased down the sunset and ran around a new little body of water on my way home from the gym pool. It was a smiley, braid-swinging, kick-ass kind of run today. I wanted to run a little longer & push a little further today. It's crazy what our bodies are capable of when our mind decides to do something. Took the first 4 miles easy, picked it up for the next 5, then cooled down the last mile. On runs when I get into the groove, I always have a moment (or a couple of miles) when I laugh and tell myself that I know I'm an endurance athlete because it took me until mile x to feel good. Today, it was around mile 8 where I literally felt like I was cruising and just kind of in a trance. My watch said 7:55 pace, my breathing was easy and running felt effortless. Today was just what I needed. 10 miles @ 8:56 pace. 🏃🏽‍♀️💕😊#triathlontraining #marathoner #runhappy

Things didn't go as planned, but the main issue was that my heart just wasn't in it today. Not even a little bit. I forced myself to run for an hour and rode the struggle bus the entire way. Weekend warrior in full 🔛mode today! Took yesterday as a full rest day and then treated myself to a beauteous 9 1/2 hours of sleep last night. 🙌🏽 This is clearly the recipe for a great day of training - HA - if only everyday was Saturday. 😝 Brick was as follows: 2 hour 15 min aerobic ride 🚴🏽‍♀️and a 5 mile run @ 9:12 🏃🏽‍♀️. Still feeling ambivalent about whether or not I'll be able to run a marathon in 1 month, but feeling really good about the aerobic base I've been building in preparation for the big 70.3 in October. Squeezed in a short, 4 mile recovery run between post-work obligations. This took some advanced planning for what I knew would be a 10 hour work day, but I also knew it would provide some precious time to myself. Some days I love rocking out to my favorite pump up jams and others I appreciate total silence, the sound of my footfalls, and nature. Today I left the earphones behind. I don't know if it was the 9 1/2 hours of sleep I got last night or the week off from running, but today's bike/run brick was solid.👌🏽After 2 hours on the trainer, I took off for a 3 mile run. Interestingly, after the initial 2 min of feeling like Bambi learning how to walk, 🦌I settled into an 8:30 pace that felt very easy. Anyone else experience this? Today's mantra was, "bring on the pain." Some days I run because I intentionally want to feel some pain. It's the fastest way to feel truly alive. Runners have masochistic tendencies, no? .

Now that I have a trainer set up in my living room, I literally have no excuse not to ride my bike. Biking is my weakest sport, so putting time in the saddle is my main goal. Sometimes I have a specific time, sometimes it's as long as my 🍑can handle. After a stressful beginning of the week, all I wanted to do was nap when I got home from work. I lay down for 5 min and then reminded myself that napping wasn't going to help get me towards my future goals. Hopped on the trainer and got in 50 min of aerobic riding. It wasn't an enthusiastic, smiley workout kind of day, but it got done and that's what counts! 🚴🏽‍♀️👊🏽#triathlontraining #bikestagram

Hot, happy, sunshine-y miles today! ☀️🏃🏽‍♀️😊Cut my long run mileage in half this week to stay on the cautious side with my shin pain. There's such a fine line between pushing your limits and getting injured. It's always a learning process - the ability to respect the warning signs, leave your ego at the door, & back off training when your body needs to rest and repair itself.
