First snow of the winter and I couldn’t be happier it came today! β˜ƒοΈ I dread commuting in snow, but running/playing in it without having to be anywhere is the absolute best. Running makes me feel vulnerable in a way where, no matter how fast I run, I can't escape it. Today, I thought about the power of vulnerability. To run and be free. To let yourself be seen. To love with your whole heart even though there's no guarantee. To practice gratitude and joy. And to believe that you're enough. Now that's true strength. πŸ’œπŸ’šπŸ’›β€οΈ

Holy Shnikees - 70.3 - I did it! πŸŽ‰ The day started at a balmy 40 degrees for a casual 1.2 mile swim. Seriously, Austin?! πŸ˜‚ The water temp was 68, which felt wonderful, but the catch was getting out of the water and onto the bike leg in frigid temps...
β€’
β€’ The swim was beautiful, but there was mist coming off the water and after the first turn sighting was tough because we were heading straight into the sun. T1 was looong. But they had wetsuit strippers, so that was cool! Then it was onto the bike...
β€’
β€’ I had zero shame and wore my Patagonia fleece over a 3/4 bike shirt, plus gloves and toe warmers that cover the bike shoes to block the wind. I'm so happy I layered because I didn't get feeling in my feet until mile 35 of the bike, and didn't really start to notice sweat until mile 45. The bike course was rolling hills and the roads were very ROUGH. It felt like my bones were being rattled for the majority of the ride, which was less than pleasant on my elbow and mostly just scary on the downhills. Lots of water bottles were scattered on the course that had popped off of people's bikes. All things considered, it went well. I was tired, relieved, and ready when it was time to run...
β€’
β€’ By the time I got to the run portion it was 65 degrees and rising. Felt great the first loop, but I also had lead legs. The run was a 3 loop out and back that consisted of a big uphill, followed by a big downhill, and then some small rollers that went through dirt and cracked concrete. The run was hot, but I hadn't taken in enough nutrition on the bike (I left them in the fridge in the morning πŸ™„) so I wasn't surprised that I wasn't sweating and hadn't used the bathroom since before the race started. I felt comfortable and in my element in the end and just kind of zoned out to let the miles pass...
β€’
β€’ The volunteers and aid stations were frequent and incredible - on all 3 legs. I'm so happy and had a blast doing this race. It's not just the post-race endorphins talking, there will definitely be more triathlons in my future! βž–

Hello?! Weekend long run, is that you? Now that I have my new (but old) pair of Hokas, am I ready to rock n’ roll? Heck yeah I am! πŸ˜‚ Arrived home from the gym to the pleasant surprise of finding these at the door. I had thought about trying the newest version of the Clifton’s (4) but couldn’t resist a crazy good sale on these 3’s - my absolute favorite running shoe - to make this pair number 3. Oh, hi! πŸ™‹πŸ½This whole off season thing has been really nice catching up on naps, reading books, taking more off days than not, and letting my body and mind recover. But I think it's time to get back on the workout train πŸš‚ since I'm becoming restless with nothing on the calendar. It's so easy to fall out of routines, but I'm noticing that little voice in my head that says, "girl, JUST DO IT!" when I think about some of the amazing, scary, challenging, new things I want to sign up for in 2018. A few ideas are in the works. Oh, the possibilities! 😝 #runhappy #backatit #idontmindthetreadmill

TGIF! Zipped out of work and got in a quick 3 miles before the sun quickly disappeared. I keep workout clothes in my car, but definitely wasn't prepared for the biting wind and 32 degree temps. Last workout before I head to Austin tomorrow morning! πŸŽ‰All kinds of wild and irrational things were going through my mind during my swim/run brick. I keep waffling back and forth between peeing-my-pants excited and wtf-was-I-thinking terrified! For me, the best way to make things happen often means LEAPING instead of standing at the edge, waiting to be ready. I trust that this works - it's how I learn, make mistakes, grow, and have the most fun. πŸ˜‰2250 yards followed by a 30 min run. πŸŠπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸš΄πŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ#triathlontraining #austin703 #firsttimer

It's been a tumultuous relationship with learning how to ride a bike these past few months! 😬 Although I was a tad bit nervous getting back on the road with my bike for the first time since my fall, I knew this one had to get done. Physically, I know I'm in good shape. But mentally, I know I need one long, accident-free ride clipped in, before I send my bike out this coming week. πŸ‘‹πŸ½ I'm so happy to say that today was a success! I got in a 35 mile ride on the minuteman bike path, with only a few moments of worry while getting acclimated in the first couple of miles. Eased right into a decent pace and even braved trying out the aero position with my new bars. 😊 My body was stiff and somewhat confused with this "new" activity, but my mind was saying, "weeee!" for most of it. πŸš΄πŸ½β€β™€οΈ This training cycle has been up/down/crazy pants interesting, but I'm starting to feel like this whole party down in Austin - 70.3 style - is for real! βœŒπŸ½πŸŠπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸš΄πŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ#triathlontraining #austin703 #bikehappy

It's not what's happening to you, but how you respond to it that matters. β€’β€’ Five weeks removed from breaking my elbow, and feeling better each passing day. It's hard to believe in just 3 short weeks I'll be in Austin competing in my first 70.3! πŸŽ‰Feeling excited for the last few weekends of workouts (hopefully I'll get back in the pool 😬), and whatever adventure Austin has in store! The pressure of racing is off, so focusing on how thankful I am I was cleared to participate. β€’β€’ 1:30 min ride πŸš΄πŸ½β€β™€οΈfollowed by a 3 mile run πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈHappy Saturday, humans! πŸ’•#triathlontraining #endurancejunkie #runhappy

Easy Brick tonight. 25 min πŸš΄πŸ½β€β™€οΈ+ 5 mile πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ. It still kind of feels like summer when the sun is shining and there's a bit of daylight, but the cooler temps feel oh so lovely. I'm also kind of liking the cover of darkness because I get crazy sweaty. This is not an exaggeration. I get so sweaty it's embarrassing, but I've learned to just embrace it. Some girl was hardcore staring at me with a semi-puzzled, semi-disgusted look (have you never seen a sweaty person?!) as I was running towards her. So, I smiled my biggest smile, looked her in the eye, and enthusiastically said, "hi!" πŸ™‹πŸ½. If you're gonna stare, I'm gonna call you out! πŸ˜‚#triathlontraining #runandgram #runhappy

I've decided I really like running as the sun sets and it gets dark out. I'm not shy about my love for sunsets, but sometimes I'm a little weary about running around Boston alone in the dark. πŸ’πŸ½Tonight I ran the first 4 miles in daylight, mile 5 at dusk, and miles 6-8 in the dark. It was a true way to run by feel, which was great! Zoned out and enjoyed the wonderful, crisp, fall air. 8 total @ 9:14. πŸ˜ŠπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈβœŒπŸ½#triathlontraining #runhappy #runner

The trails were calling to me today. Have to capitalize on this while there's still plenty of sunshine and daylight after work. Man, it's good to be alive. πŸ™ŒπŸ½Spent tonight's run thinking about positive mindsets, thinking positive thoughts, and smiling at every person I passed. . . .
.

I spend most of my day helping people re-frame the way they think and the way they speak to themselves in order to better manage their symptoms of depression and anxiety. How do we get better at things? The key is practice. If you want to change something, you have to PRACTICE it. . . .
.

When I run, I often practice what I preach. Tonight, I used my 45 minute run to work on replacing all my negative thoughts clambering around my mind from the beginning of the week, the day, the traffic, etc, with neutral or positive ones. Every time a worry popped into my mind, I acknowledged it, then told myself to let it go (while singing the tune to frozen in my head!). I also smiled and tried to make eye contact with every human, animal, and pretty piece of sky that I saw. It got dark quickly, so not sure the people saw the smiles, but kept sharing them anyways. There are so many reasons to smile! βœŒπŸ½πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈβ€οΈ#runhappy #skyspretty #chasingsunsets

Sometimes things spontaneously happen that stir up feelings inside us. It's up to us to decide whether or not to embrace these moments or ignore them. Tonight's sunset was exactly what my soul needed. I finished up a great run and then stared at the changing colors of the sky. Despite the chaos of this week, I felt only stillness. For 10 whole minutes time stopped. This is why I'll never stop chasing sunsets. ❀️#seenonmyrun #sunsets #runhappy

Ran straight through a torrential downpour and loved every second of it. 🌧My first run back in a little over two weeks - post-elbow break - felt odd but wonderful all at once! 30 minutes at a very cautious 9:43 pace. Am I right side up or upside down? πŸ™‚πŸ™ƒListened to my body this week and cut back on everything - mileage, intensity and duration. I think this was exactly what I needed both physically and mentally, as I'm heading into this next week feeling rejuvenated and refocused. This evenings run was a nice and easy 4.5 miles @ 9:01. πŸŠπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸš΄πŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ#triathlontraining #sundayrunday #happyrunner

Kept telling myself that in just a few weeks it's going to start getting cold and the crazy heat/humidity is building character. πŸ˜‚ Just keep on keepin' on! πŸ’™#triathlontraining #sunsets #runhappy

It was a smiley, braid-swinging, kick-ass kind of run today. I wanted to run a little longer & push a little further today. It's crazy what our bodies are capable of when our mind decides to do something. Took the first 4 miles easy, picked it up for the next 5, then cooled down the last mile. On runs when I get into the groove, I always have a moment (or a couple of miles) when I laugh and tell myself that I know I'm an endurance athlete because it took me until mile x to feel good. Today, it was around mile 8 where I literally felt like I was cruising and just kind of in a trance. My watch said 7:55 pace, my breathing was easy and running felt effortless. Today was just what I needed. 10 miles @ 8:56 pace. πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ’•πŸ˜Š#triathlontraining #marathoner #runhappy

"Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle." -Napoleon Hill // Procrastinated this run today far too long. Things didn't go as planned, but the main issue was that my heart just wasn't in it today. Not even a little bit. I forced myself to run for an hour and rode the struggle bus the entire way. [6 miles @ 9:29] πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸšŒπŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ Cut this one short and made peace with that decision because the rough workouts play a part in making us stronger, just like the awesome ones do too. πŸ‘ŠπŸ½#triathlontraining #runandgram

Weekend warrior in full πŸ”›mode today! Took yesterday as a full rest day and then treated myself to a beauteous 9 1/2 hours of sleep last night. πŸ™ŒπŸ½ This is clearly the recipe for a great day of training - HA - if only everyday was Saturday. 😝 Brick was as follows: 2 hour 15 min aerobic ride πŸš΄πŸ½β€β™€οΈand a 5 mile run @ 9:12 πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ. Still feeling ambivalent about whether or not I'll be able to run a marathon in 1 month, but feeling really good about the aerobic base I've been building in preparation for the big 70.3 in October. Squeezed in a short, 4 mile recovery run between post-work obligations. This took some advanced planning for what I knew would be a 10 hour work day, but I also knew it would provide some precious time to myself. Rarely do we get the opportunity to run straight forward, head on into our fears, dreams, goals and purpose. Today's run felt amazing. Today's mantra was, "bring on the pain." Some days I run because I intentionally want to feel some pain. It's the fastest way to feel truly alive. Runners have masochistic tendencies, no? .

Now that I have a trainer set up in my living room, I literally have no excuse not to ride my bike. Biking is my weakest sport, so putting time in the saddle is my main goal. Sometimes I have a specific time, sometimes it's as long as my πŸ‘can handle. After a stressful beginning of the week, all I wanted to do was nap when I got home from work. I lay down for 5 min and then reminded myself that napping wasn't going to help get me towards my future goals. Hopped on the trainer and got in 50 min of aerobic riding. Next week will be a good test of what's realistic when it comes to work + commute time + fitting in all my workouts (bye bye πŸ‘‹πŸ½naps). Tomorrow Is the start of my 4 month half ironman training on top of marathon training. Crazy? Maybe! Embracing the challenge! πŸ‘ŠπŸ½#marathontraining #triathlontraining #runlong

A very steamy 4th of July run! 5.55 miles rockin' red, white and blue. β€οΈπŸ’™. . . .
.
I dropped my pace into the low 8's for 2 of the miles and my breathing stayed easy but my legs were a little tweaky. Maybe it's the heat/humidity. Maybe it's that I haven't done any real speed work in a year. Either way, hoping the consistency of these hot summer runs will be rewarded with some cool fall PR's. 😎 #marathontraining #4thofjuly #runhappy

An hour ride on the trainer to start the day and four wonderful sunset miles to end it. After coming off the third consecutive whirlwind weekend away, it's so nice to be home. I feel at ease. Nothing to do but relax and get in a few quality workouts. One more day off and then it's back to reality on wed. Happy (almost) 4th of July, friends! β€οΈπŸ’™#marathontraining #sunset #runhappy

Running on vacation is one of my favorite things to do. Explored some pretty San Diego neighborhoods (holy hills!) this morning + soaked up a healthy dose of vitamin D. πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈβ˜€οΈA very happy 8.5 miles @ 9:00 pace. Now we're off to the zoo!! 🦁#marathontraining #goodvibes #runcation

Reunited and it feels so good. 😊Being awake since 5am and then on the go all day left me with a poor concept of time and feeling discombobulated by 5pm! A run with @thayerlawson was just the ticket! Thank goodness for lifelong friends and 5 easy miles. πŸ’•πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ’•#runningbuddy #partnerincrime #marathontraining

Hello summer running! Spent 50 minutes grinning on the trails to kick off my 6 day vacation. . . β€’ β€’

Growing up, my mom always talked about being rich, but not in the monetary sense. She would tell us that we were rich in love, rich in knowledge, and when the start of summer vacation came around, her favorite saying was, "it's like money in the bank" because we were rich with free time!πŸ’°. . . β€’

Couldn't help but think about this when I was running tonight and definitely laughed out loud a couple of times. πŸ˜‚ πŸŽ‰πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ’™ #trailrunning #runhappy #happyhumpday

Stepped out the door between thunderstorms tonight to see this stunning sunset. Made it 2 miles before I began to think maybe my safety was in jeopardy! Watching lightning from inside is much more fun than running from it. πŸ˜‰β›ˆπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈβ›ˆ#seenonmyrun #sunset #marathontraining

First long run of this training cycle and longest run since Boston. Aside from the lack of sleep coming off a bachelorette weekend, this run actually went well! I procrastinated getting out the door this afternoon, but everything felt pretty much A-OK once I got a few miles in. Training during the summer can get crazy with all the weekends away/festivities. But the truth is, there's never going to be a "right time" or better time. Don't wait! Fit the things you love into your life and they'll stay a priority. πŸ™‹πŸ½πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ’œ #marathontraining #runandgram #longrun

Hard to believe this hot, humid and sunny run turned into a rainy thunderstorm run within the course of 40 min. Got super sweaty the first 4 miles, then it started to rain and it felt SO refreshing the last 0.25 mile! If only every run could be so well timed and end with a nice cool shower! πŸ˜ŠπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈβ˜”οΈHappy Friday, ya'll! #happyrunner #runandgram #marathontraining

Win-win situation today. I got to explore a new river trail after work that stretched on for what looked like forever to the naked eye. Spoiler alert: πŸ’πŸ½I followed it all the way to the end - forever ended up being 2.5 miles. Hopped in my nugget πŸš™ and hit zero traffic heading back home into the city. Heck yes, I'm happy! It's all about the little things. 😊#trailrunning #marathontraining #triathlontraining

I am the one thing in life I can control
I am inimitable β€’ I am an original // HAMILTON. . .

I left work today carrying more emotional baggage than usual. Instead of fighting it, I used it to fuel my workout. I thought a lot about the idea that comparing ourselves to others is often what makes us very unhappy. This is true. But I also believe that comparing ourselves to ourselves can be dangerous when it's done in a negative and judgmental way. We are often our own worst critics, and can beat ourselves up without the added outside influence. . .
.

So what can we do about it? We can remember to be gentle with ourselves because at the end of the day, your opinion is the one that matters the most. πŸ’œ . . . . 45 min πŸš΄πŸ½β€β™€οΈfollowed by a 40 min πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ. #runningrambles #runandgram #runhappy
