Alright, time to share some happy from Ironman Santa Rosa! So much #friendpride going on for @triandrungirl and @runningwithstrength that day. It's not often that two of your best friends race an Ironman at the same time! And as Kindal's training partner and Heather's coach, I was *that* much more invested in their races. I got to see first-hand all of the obstacles that each of them overcame just to get to that start line.
Did you know that Kindal is a PA and works crazy 12-hour days on her feet in the ER? And was literally in the middle of a move -- as in, her husband was driving to their next base -- during IMSR? She won't mention it, but she actually had stomach ulcers from the stress leading up to the move week, which just happened to coincide with race week. These military moves are no joke. Kindal trained so hard this past year and has come so far!
And then Heather, as you may know, is a supermom. She balances the Ironmom life so beautifully, and she and I were always adjusting her plan to make sure her training and her family life lined up well. Did you know she and her husband are heavily involved with volunteering for our church? That she has a million things on her plate and does it all with a smile? And remember how she had a stress fracture in her foot and couldn't even start running until May? Yet was still primed for a huge PR in Santa Rosa.
And that's just the kind of stuff you mention on IG. So add in all the extra life things and yeah, I was feeling all the feels knowing what my girls did to get here. Matt and I were tracking them & our BAM friends in the ER and sent me back onto the course to cheer for them as soon as he was released. Kindal ended up matching her Ironman PR, which had previously been her best-possible time, on a hard day. (Amazing when your "worst" is your previous "best!") And Heather smashed a ~90 minute PR!!! I cried all the happy tears for them as they ran through that finisher's chute. Then they cried with me when I finally let people tell them about Matt, and I thanked them for being the bright spots on a tough day. The best kind of friends, these two. (And our @tamarynnleigh who was there in spirit!) 💗
