Some of you may know I work for Network Rail as a Signal Technican, and at the beginning I was having a very tough time with my speech, I was almost just happy to be there. Not really engaging with my colleagues, trying to compensate in other ways because of my lack of ability to communicate.
But since joining the mcguire programme and then embarking on a journey of self-discovery I have finally found who I am, I no more hold back, I say what I mean and I mean what I say... And I live a happier and all round more fulfilling life being a Person Who Stammers.
A few months ago I was gracefully giving the opportunity to tell my story through a 4 page feature spread in NetworkRail's monthly National Magazine. It was an honour and I'm so happy my story is being shared across the business, up and down the country.
Hopefully encouraging people to talk about their issues without feeling they may be judged, appear weak or even vulnerable. Everyone has problems, we don't have go through them alone. It's okay to ask for help!
Mental health in this country needs alot more empathetic consideration, and a hell of alot more action. I plan on making it my mission to deliver these in whatever way possible.
