Queen Anne of Bourbon (18 September 1923 - 1 August 2016) was the daughter of Prince René of Bourbon and Princess Margareta of Danmark.
She spent her childhood in France, but in 1939, after the outbreak of the war, Her Majesty and her family moved to Spain and then to the USA. To earn her living, Her Majesty worked as a seller at Macy's.
In 1943, Princess Anne voluntarily enrolled in the French army and at the end of the war was awarded "La Croix de Guerre". Princess Anne met King Michael I in London and just after 1 week, the King asked for her hand in marriage. They married on the 10th of June 1984, in Athens, and lived together, mostly in Switzerland, ever since and until her last day.
Sadly, Queen Anne gave her last breath on the 1st of August 2016, at a hospital in Morges, Switzerland, at the age of 92. Her Majesty had her funeral in Romania and now her lifeless body lies at the Curtea de Argeș Cathedral.
The government of Romania declared that the 13 August 2016 shall be a national day of mourning. Two days later, on the 5th August, President Nicolae Timofti of Moldova likewise decreed national mourning on 13 August in memory of Queen Anne. #history
