Today I had to go through the hardest part in the process of starting a new life. I had to hand over the keys of my #2cv to a wonderful new owner.
It broke my heart to sell her and it took me a half hour to actually leave her behind in the street, after crying more than one tear for her.
She was more than a car to me, I knew every scratch and rusty bit, knew how to gently coax her when she wouldn't want to start in the winter time and the feeling of adrenaline and accomplishment when she came alive with that special rattling sound! I took parts of her apart, treated her to a generous round of #WD40 when smt was stuck, and patched her up with #ducttape when she fell apart.
She rewarded me with a sense of accomplishment, freedom and autonomy I had never experienced before and took me to amazing places I wouldnt have gone to on my own. She put me in touch with wonderful people! She taught me how to fix things that are broken and to rely on myself. That nothing is ever as bad as it seems and that life goes on, no matter how stuck and in the middle of nowhere you may find yourself! And let's not forget, she taught me to drive! Properly drive, and mental drive! The looks on peoples faces when she started with screeching wheels from a red light and left them behind in a dustcloud, is impossible to forget! Same as the thumbs up and friendly greetings from people she passed in the street. Everyone was always happy to see her and she put a smile on everyones face. Until today, it was impossible to be in a bad mood while driving her!
But more than anything, she is the embodiment of imperfection and will always remind me that flaws are exactly what makes things and people special and worthy of love!
I would never have swapped her for any other car, but she deserves a dry place to hibernate and someone who takes care of her and treats her well. I am relieved to have found a buyer that promises just that. He was as happy as I was sad today, and that means a lot!
I miss her dearly and know she can never be replaced! Thank you Zora for all you have given me!
