Shoulder Pain Rehab (PART 1)

⭐We're gonna break this Shoulder impingement/ Rotator cuff injury rehab into 3 parts.
.
⭐First up, working on the complete range of motion with motor control to get back mobility.
.
⭐Rotator cuff injury occurs usually due to repetitive overload and cause irritation to the shoulder.
.
👉In the first phase of rehab we'll concentrate on getting the load off the shoulder. Starting with simple shoulder movements with assistance (you can use the foam roller) in the first few days after injury.
.
⭐The progression to follow should be isometric --> eccentric --> dynamic loading.
.
🤜 Progress with the external rotators,, Y-T-Ws, butterfly rows with objects to work on activation and motor control.
.
👉 Lastly, in the first phase also concentration should be given on shoulder stability exercises like ball circles on the wall.
.
🙌 In the next video, we will focus on phase 2 i.e strengthening the shoulder.
.
🔖 Before starting these exercises please consult with a physical therapist to get the pain levels checked and to be sure whether to continue with such exercises. .

The serratus anterior originates at the upper nine ribs, and runs all the way to the medial side of the scapula. First, it plays a role in protracting the shoulder blades (moving them away from each other). It is also responsible for stabilizing and holding the shoulder blades against the rib cage. These actions support the actions of the major upper back, shoulder, and chest muscles.

[Almost] 4 weeks post op and things are really getting better, as well as easier to do. The good thing... I’m able to come out of the sling a few times a day for 30-60 minutes. I have to work on keeping my arm down and bringing my shoulder back. After being in the sling this long, my arm is stiff and my shoulder is rolling forward.

Another good thing... I slept in my bed for the last two nights! I can’t tell you how good it feels (even with that bulky sling on)! The recliner is comfortable but not for 4 weeks!

I am gaining some strength and muscle back in my forearm and have some pen control when writing. I’m able to put SOME makeup on with my right hand. I’m able to brush my teeth with my right hand. And I’m able to somehow manage to get my hair in a slightly messy pony tail and bun, by holding my head between my knees and propping my elbow on my knee. Hurts like hell but I won’t have anyone to do it for me for the next 4 weeks.

Therapy has been good and I’m really starting to see the benefits this week. My shoulder isn’t as tight (trust me, it’s still very tight), but range of motion is improving and the pain is subsiding. Some exercises are harder than others, and some movements the therapist does is painful. But it’s all forward progress!

Two more weeks before I can “officially” ditch the sling... but that’s even if I’m comfortable without it. If the doc said today I didn’t have to wear it, I’d be lost. I know I’ll likely miss a week of therapy due to my deployment, but I have some things to work on at home/hotel and just hope that doesn’t set me back any.

Getting to the root of #shoulder #core activation requires lower body core as well.
Adding seated Physio Ball exercises can create a more challenging surface to train those lower spine, pelvis, and hip #muscles while tying in rotator cuff conditioning.

I would say 90% of the clients I come across nowadays have neck and shoulder pains because they don’t even know how to have a good posture, or how to engage their posterior chains in order to have a good posture. You gotta learn how to use those shoulder blades, and also how to position them properly! Try this quick drill daily. .
Find a wall, or you can use the floor, or on a yoga exercise ball. Engage your shoulder blades and bring your shoulders and arms through Y’s, T’s, and W’s with a reach! 20 reps each. 60 Reps total. Let me know how they work out for ya. .
KEY: FOCUS ON SHOULDER STABILITY AND SCAPULA MOBILITY! And BREATH!
