Whatever became of this couple....? (PART 1)
"And She Flew Away" from a while ago
Their story... 'The oil was leaking again. A little 'X' was marked on the map and the pilot made an uneventful precautionary landing near the ranch house. But the repairs had taken longer than expected so the flight would have to continue in the morning. The cowboy who had been watching with interest offered a meal and a room. Over supper the flyer told exciting stories of learning to fly and eventually being able to buy the Jenny. There were impressive plans to fly the mail, or to become a bush pilot up in the Yukon. Maybe even Alaska. And bigger dreams to start an airline and someday fly the world! The cowboy spoke of his family. They had been ranching this land ever since his great grandfather had come to terms with the Blackfeet. And of himself more recently coming to very agreeable terms with the oil company. Now alone except for the few ranch hands, he didn't give much thought to travel anymore. He'd seen enough in France during the Great War.
The night was long, full of conversation and pleasant. The breakfast awkward and short. With the oil leak sorted out, the Jenny's engine ran perfectly again. During the warmup the little 'X' was changed to a heart.
A wave. A smile. And she flew away.
