Since I’m in Kansai anyway, decided to stay overnight to get Kinryuu ramen for breakfast 😄 Been having this every time I visited my grandpa in Osaka since I was a kid.
It’s not fancy gourmet ramen, but it is very addictive and there is an unlimited supply of fresh garlic, kimchi and spicy nira chives ... If you intend to kiss anyone you should literally drink listerine afterwards 🙈 For a tonkotsu ramen it is incredibly light and the chashu is also super lean - some people might find it dry, but I actually like it this way.
I only like this particular branch in Midosuji where there are no seats and you eat standing on the street. It’s particularly nice on chilly days ❄️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Beef ramen 🐮 @ Teppanyaki Kishin, Daikanyama. Massive slice of kobe-gyu literally covering my entire bowl. soothing broth made of beef bone, beef tail, ginger, shiitake, onion, kombu and a variety of tennen shio.
can’t wait to try other flavours! wagyu gyozas were also tasty.

Setouchi Lemon Ramen 🍜 🍋 @ Neiroya, Ogikubo. This was a refreshing bowl I imagine I’d like to eat whenever I have no appetite (yes it happens) ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
While the soup base was sour and zesty - all that you expect from lemon, none of it was overpowering in this solid, hearty broth. To be honest I thought I would regret getting this lemony ramen because I normally prefer a simple shoyu but this proved me wrong! mixed wonton (🐷 & 🦐) chashu men ☺︎ @ Tantantei, Hamadayama. this is where 八雲 in Ikejiri Ohashi came from (up till a few years ago they even used the same bowls) while it’s nothing like what you get in HK, the ebi wonton here is legit 😎 surprisingly fresh & sweet shrimp wrapped in super smooth, almost drinkable dumpling skin !! #ronomnom_ramen#ワンタン#雲呑#雲呑麺

tantanmen @ Kisurin Aoyama , extra 🌶

All natural ramen @ Furumen, Roppongi-itchome. Notice the extra long, slightly grilled menma 👍🏻 Top notch👍🏻 Favourite bowl was definitely the Shoyu ramen. Also the shiu mai was one of the best Japanese styled ones I’ve ever had, stuffed with juicy and fragrant shiitake mushrooms unlike your average minced meatball steamed in Japanese shiu mai skin. This ramen-ya is also unique as it serves a separate Western otsumami menu - I particularly enjoyed the tomato trippa 🍅 & sunagimo (kidney) confit 😋 *will probably skip gyoza & tantanmen next time to try all the other things!

Wonton & yakibuta chuuka-soba 🍜@ Tora Shokudo, Shirakawa.
This was no doubt one of the best ramen soups I’ve ever had. While I personally prefer more al dente ramen, these handmade noodles were smooth, delicious and so addictive! the wonton had silky, paper thin skin that felt drinkable. yaki-buta was lean yet juicy & flavourful. oh and the amazing smell (!!) - in retrospect, even a lot of the best tasting ramen did not necessarily smell this good.
What more can i say. This was a bowl of excellence.
