Ian Gillan released his 'Naked Thunder' solo album in 1990, only a few months after being sacked from Deep Purple. I admit I like this one better than 'Slaves & Masters', the record Purple put out the same year with singer Joe Lynn Turner fronting the band. 'Naked...' was far from perfect, but at least it was an honest work and Gillan's singing was very good, covering every style from pop ('No Good Luck') and rock and roll ('Nothing To Lose') to hard rock ('Gut Reaction') or folk ('No More Cane On The Brazos'). The ballad 'Loving On Borrowed Time' featured one of the singer's most amazing, heartfelt performances ever. Delicious stuff. I really like the sleeve photo too, I think it suits the music perfectly.
