I checked Twitter today only to find out the worst. Carrie Fisher has died at the age of 60 today at 8:55am. I am honestly in shock and extremely sad. I was actually drinking coffee out of one of my favorite Star Wars mugs when I saw her as one of the trending topics on Twitter and I had to stop what I was doing. I still can't believe this happened, but we must all never forget her, what she stood for, her advocating of mental health and her incredible talent. 60 years old man, I'm so angry. I hope all of you are alright, this is a lot to take in especially as the year ends. Condolences to her family and friends. Rest in peace angel, may the force be with you.

A Horseshoe Einstein Ring from Hubble
What's large and blue and can wrap itself around an entire galaxy? A gravitational lens mirage. Pictured above, the gravity of a luminous red galaxy (LRG) has gravitationally distorted the light from a much more distant blue galaxy. More typically, such light bending results in two discernible images of the distant galaxy, but here the lens alignment is so precise that the background galaxy is distorted into a horseshoe -- a nearly complete ring. Since such a lensing effect was generally predicted in some detail by Albert Einstein over 70 years ago, rings like this are now known as Einstein Rings. Although LRG 3-757 was discovered in 2007 in data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), the image shown above is a follow-up observation taken with the Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field Camera 3. Strong gravitational lenses like LRG 3-757 are more than oddities -- their multiple properties allow astronomers to determine the mass and dark matter content of the foreground galaxy lenses.

Cosmic dust clouds and young, energetic stars inhabit this telescopic vista, less than 500 light-years away toward the northern boundary of Corona Australis, the Southern Crown. The dust clouds effectively block light from more distant background stars in the Milky Way. But the striking complex of reflection nebulae cataloged as NGC 6726, 6727, and IC 4812 produce a characteristic color as blue light from the region's young, hot stars is reflected by the cosmic dust. The dust also obscures from view stars still in the process of formation. At top right, smaller yellowish nebula NGC 6729 bends around young variable star R Coronae Australis. Near it, glowing arcs and loops shocked by outflows from embedded newborn stars are identified as Herbig-Haro objects. On the sky this field of view spans about 1 degree. That corresponds to almost 9 light-years at the estimated distance of the nearby star forming region.

Moon habs! To make space exploration beyond low Earth orbit really take off, we need a way to settle and live on other worlds.
👨‍🚀👩‍🚀🏕️
Above are 3 examples of what lunar settlements and colonies might look like:
1️⃣ SpaceX Moon base
2️⃣ ESA Moon Village concept
3️⃣ NASA Moon base concept
🌑🏕️
There's no point having much more affordable travel if you couldn't stay at your destination for any period of time. So the ability to build habs for living and working is extremely important.
👷‍♂️🏗️
As we saw with NASA's lunar orbital gateway, there's the option of living in orbit around the Moon. However, if we want to make use of the Moon's resources like helium 3 and water, we will need to be able to first explore, find it and mine for it. It's very difficult doing that if you have to commute back to a floating ship every few hours or day! 🌑☝️
A popular idea is to dig trenches and build habs underground, as seen above. This helps with radiation shielding and minimise air leakage. We could do this near the poles as well, to take advantage of the long summers (with movable panels when it's winter).
🌌🌌🌌
What would YOU like to do on the Moon?

One of the coolest rocket launch 🚀 of the @ulalaunch Delta IV Heavy Rocket, blasted away the NASA Eugene Parker Solar probe - a mission to “touch the sun” 🔥
.
The spacecraft will reach as close as 6 million km away from the sun, and speed through its corona plasma fields at 200 km/s. A special heatshield made of reinforced carbon-carbon composite, radiator panels and reflective steel skeleton will resist temps as high as 1400.C (2700 F) and maintain internal temp of 27 degrees!
.
Launch date: August 12 at 3:31 am ET.
