A School of Jackfish streak past a coral atoll in the Maldives just after sunset. These ferocious predatory fish sit out on the edge of the reef during the day before sweeping in for a feed at night.
Scubadiving with large schools of fish really is a unique and fantastic experience. Feeling hundreds of eyes stare you down all at once as fish rush past with unparalleled agility makes you feel like a floating ocean blob in the best sort of way. -

It was an honor to have received the news that my image Ribcage was awarded 2nd place in the Abstract category of the 2017 Hawaii Magazine Photo Contest. It is featured in the 2018 Jan / Feb issue.

A huge thank you to @knektusa . It's because of their amazing GoPro Trigger that I was able to capture this unique image of a wave's vortex that I’ll forever be grateful for. Thank you to @hawaiimagazine for picking Ribcage as a winner.

If you would like a print of RIBCAGE you can purchase it on Paper, Canvas, or HD Metal at www.creationscape.com

This guy flew inside the boat and knocked himself out!! After a quick photo and regaining consciousness he was back on his way 😍🐟

FACTS: The Flight Process
The process of taking flight, or gliding, begins by gaining great velocity underwater, about 37 miles (60 kilometers) per hour. Angling upward, the four-winged flying fish breaks the surface and begins to taxi by rapidly beating its tail while it is still beneath the surface. It then takes to the air, sometimes reaching heights over 4 feet (1.2 meters) and gliding long distances, up to 655 feet (200 meters). Once it nears the surface again, it can flap its tail and taxi without fully returning to the water. Capable of continuing its flight in such a manner, flying fish have been recorded stretching out their flights with consecutive glides spanning distances up to 1,312 feet (400 meters).

Dolphins are amazing 😍🐬 especially these ones! 💙
-

Intelligent and adaptable, these dolphins have developed an unusual technique for catching fish that ordinarily remain tantislisingly out of reach near Shark Bay in Australia.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL // Some Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles love to sunbathe. They crawl up to the beach and take naps that last for hours while soaking up the sun. They do this to recharge their battery if you will ... The sun provides them with plenty of vitamins and energy to help them get back to life in the ocean. Their shells are a part of their body and they cannot completely retreat inside of them... In this case, they also act as a solar panel. In Hawaii these guys are endangered... They're fun to look at but please, do not touch or disturb while they’re resting. #shotoniphone

from @theocean - Octopuses communicate with each other and anything they might encounter using posture & color changes. 😎

Dark color changes signal aggression where an octopus might spread out, appearing larger, as to say “leave me alone buddy!” where paler colors indicate retreat.

GOOD CLEAN FUN // Hawaiian Spinner dolphins enjoying some crystal clear water.

DIAMOND HEAD GLOW

When life gives you Lemons

Always a pleasure getting into the water with Lemon Sharks as they are very inquisitive and are not hesitant to approach and get really close

The US is getting better at protecting sharks in their own country, but unfortunately shark finning and fishing is still a huge problem around the world, of which the products are still making it into the US. More needs to be done to ensure these animals remain in the water and in good numbers

The beluga, or white whale, is one of the smallest species of whale. Their distinctive color and prominent foreheads make them easily identifiable.
Unlike most other whales, the beluga has a very flexible neck that enables it to nod and turn its head in all directions.
Belugas generally live together in small groups known as pods. They are social animals and very vocal communicators. They use a diversified language of clicks, whistles, and clangs. Belugas can also copy a variety of other sounds.
Belugas feed on fish, crustaceans, and worms.
The whale is related to the tusked "unicorn" whale known as the narwhal. The beluga is not related to the sturgeon of the same name, which has been heavily fished for its famous caviar.

Repost theocean - WHY DO RAYS LEAP THROUGH THE AIR?
To be honest, even scientists do not have the answer for that question. But there is many hypothesis proposed by expert :
Those jumps could help rays to get rid of parasites and remoras (also called suckerfish, fish that use suction cup to stick to bigger animals) that made them suffer.
By doing big leaps, school of rays may communicate with isolated individual trying to indicate their location in order to help them to join the group. Indeed, by jumping all together, rays produce a sound perceptible from miles away.
Others have another theory. Rays could congregate and jump to seduce their partner.
What about fun ? May be rays jump only for fun, like dolphins surfing waves or cat playing with ball of wool? Animals also have the right to spend great time with friends.
-
Nevertheless, for whatever reason, thousand flying rays remains a breathtaking show.
-
This footage shows mobula rays jumping above water, up to 2 meters high. So know, let me ask you the same question, why do rays jump? Share your suggestions in the comment section.
