I am so grateful to be home, resting, recovering, and reflecting on the past few months of struggling with my uterus. This is one of the first major medical “bumps” in the road and I’m thankful for it regardless of the challenges it gave me. I’ve learned a lot from all of this, and I’ll continue to learn as I recover.
My procedure took a little longer than expected due to some unexpected complications. From an estimated time of 45 minutes, my surgery lasted 2 1/2 hours. My doctor discovered that I had more polyps than expected and as he would scrape away the polyps they revealed the fibroids. I had two fibroids that were “ping pong” ball size near the opening of my cervix. They cause the most issues and the prolonged heavy bleeding during my periods. My doctor had to put a balloon in my uterus after the procedure was over to stop the bleeding. Most women will only lose 50cc of blood but I lost 300cc’s, bringing my hemoglobin to 7.0. But, it’s all good. Got home around 4:30pm (instead of 11:00am), and enjoyed some yummy Pho 🍲 since I was so hangry.
I’m still a little groggy from the anesthesia, with a mixture of being more fatigued due to blood loss - but recovering and bouncing back because the only way out is to get up and dust yourself off.
Thank you to the amazing staff at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, from the admitting nurses, the surgical team, my doctor, the recovery team - they were the absolute best. Thank you to my mother in law who dropped us off at the crack of dawn, my dad for picking us up and to my wife @larina67 for never leaving my side (and for keeping everyone updated), thank you to my workplace and partner for covering while I’m out and for being so understanding - and for everyone for your continued love, support and healing vibes.
My follow up with my doctor is Thursday, and I’ll see what the next steps are but until then: everyday I feel a little better and any improvement is welcomed.
