Very sad to see this mighty Beech has come to the end of its long journey in the Steeple woodland in spectacular fashion.
This is one I always like to introduce people to on my botanical walks. A huge, gnarly, hollow trunked Beech.
Thought to be over 400 years old. This is a tree I’ve known for as long as I can remember and have spent many happy hours underneath it’s canopy. Now the canopy is open It’s amazing to see how much space it occupied. Journey well my friend. Sad to see it go but such is the way of nature, New life will emerge and other trees will fill the space provided.
It’s very good advice never to camp under an old Beech tree. They can be very treacherous. Just last week a friend of mine found someone camping underneath this one!
