Destini ‘Nunu’ Ruffins, 23, of Shreveport, Louisiana and her son were ejected from her vehicle during a rollover crash on Monday. The accident happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. Caddo Sheriff's deputies say Destini lost control and rolled several times down an embankment.
She was non-responsive and not breathing when a Caddo Parish sheriff's deputy who saw the accident got to her. He and another deputy were able to revive her to give medical personnel a chance to try to save her, crash investigators said.
Destini was not wearing a seat belt. Her son was in a car seat but it was not attached to the vehicle's passenger-restraint system, investigators said. Investigators are unsure as to what caused her to lose control of the vehicle as she was not on her phone and the roads were not icy.
Sadly, she passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018.
Her one-year-old son suffered minor injuries in the crash and was released from the hospital into the care of his father.
Destini is remembered as a loving mother to her son Noah. She was always smiling, happy and uplifting. Her friend had this to say about her: “Destini had big dreams and was working to create a legacy for her son. She never gave up on the things she wanted to do and she was always trying to better herself to be the best mom possible to Noah."
Destini was predeceased by her brother Johnathan Clarkson, 13, who passed away in 2016 in a drowning accident.
She leaves behind many loved ones to mourn her loss, including her boyfriend who is Noah’s father. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. Rest well NuNu and Johnathan...
