Final Thoughts: I have a lot of respect for 88rising, I think it’s a great label and I like the artists on here and I’m constantly seeing the potential from everyone on it. This album is pretty much for summer vibes and partying which is fine, I do think theres a lot of great cuts here that do the job. I’m not crazy about every track but a lot of these songs have this very blissful and cloudy atmosphere. I think the singing from most of the artists is very impressive, Niki does a great job as usual, August 08 can be a bit mixed but he does well, and Joji sounds completely different like he’s more awake and less sleepy. Even the guest singers do pretty great, if it’s one thing that I don’t have a problem with on this project it’s that. My main problem is the overall rapping ability from the artists. Brian isn’t the the best, I like his flows but his bars are painfully average like on “Beam,” but that line about Yung Lean was cool though. I’m not crazy about The Higher Brothers, and they’re fine lbut I won’t lie their voices can get to a point where they’re just unbearing. Keith Ape is only on one song but I think he’s definitely the best rapper out of 88rising. I think the features are very mixed, Blocboy Jb and Goldlink are good but Yung Bans, Yung Pinch, and a few others are just boring. Even though I’m not crazy about this project there is a lot of highlights. The remixed songs are normally great like “Japan 88,” and “Lover Boy 88,” and the more sunny and carefree songs are fun like “La Ciengega,” “Peach Jam,” and “Nothing Wrong.” There are a bit of duds but I think there’s so much material that works on this project.
