Tonight’s Libations: Birch Old Fashioned. While I love cooking, I love being invited to dinner parties even more! Tonight I brought the cocktail program. After dinner was what I hoped would be this sublime old fashioned. Made with Birch Syrup (like maple syrup from birch trees) and Birch liquor. And hand carved clear ice cylinders. With persimmon bitters and a fuyu persimmon slice to add some fruit and fall flavors. Guess what? It was a dud. Oh well. To start the night I brought bottled cocktails. The three intro courses were 1) Have At It (sherry/gin/grapefruit/lemon/simple/soda) from death and co 2) Claridge gin/dry vermouth/apricot/ dry curaçao and 3) Rhum punch with rum, lime, allspice dram and nutmeg dust. Good times tonight!
