On this day last year, my family and I opened the doors for the first time to Ricks Good Eats! We were nervous, excited, overwhelmed, passionate, and open to what this new adventure would bring us.
Since that first time we switched on the "open" sign, we have been learning, growing, and creating something we are so damn proud of. We want #RGE to be a place where we can bring our original recipes to life. We want the flavours we create to reflect the people who immigrated to this amazing country, that make it vibrant. We make a conscious decision to call our food Canadian fusion, not Indian fusion. Thats because our food can only be created in an incredible community like the Peel Region where Punjabi, Jamaican, Italian, Portuguese, and all other Canadians mix, mingle, and learn from each other.
We've had some amazing accomplishments this past year. Starting off with a team of a few family members, to growing to a staff of 15, always keeping that family vibe. You have left us amazing reviews and even some that we have learnt and grown from. We have gone to be #39th restaurant in all of Canada according to Yelp. Harjot and I were both named on Brampton Board of Trade Top 40 Under 40 List. We have thrown some incredible events in the space from birthdays, showers, to open mic nights and art exhibits. But most importantly, we have shared it all with you.
We want to sincerely thank every single one of you who made the time to come in and check out the space, try some good eats, and show that you are with us. This business is not easy. We have given up so much to make these dreams a reality. From social lives, vacations, and family obligations, we know we have been pretty MIA, so to know that you took the time out to support is huge. We appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts and will never forget those faces who came in.
The biggest thank you is to my mom, Manjeet Matharu. #RGE isn't just my dream, it is also hers. She has been my sidekick, business partner, and friend throughout this entire process and we couldn't have done this without her. People always ask me about how I come up with the ideas to my recipes. She has been my inspiration since I was a kid.
