**side note: If you're offended by glutes, don't swipe. I have no shame when it comes to my body, but at the same time it's not a modesty issue when you're objectively comparing progress. Some people will sexualize anything, but I simply don't see it that way. Also, I've spent too many years feeling shy and insecure about myself, so I'm done with that. Just a disclaimer for anyone wondering why I post pictures in my underwear.**

My strength is the highest it's ever been, my intake is close to 3000 calories a day, and this is the most muscle I've ever carried on my frame. Improving my ratios and performance. Tracking my food 75% of the time, but always making sure protein is high, water intake is high, and taking my @1stphorm supplements every single day.

How do you gain weight and not feel bogged down?

I dieted for 6 straight months. It's been 4 months since I stopped dieting, but I've increased calories at almost the same rate I dropped them: Veeeeerrrry sloooooowlyyyy. Still not anywhere near close to the height of my bulk. We play the long game here.

A common reason you see folks gain weight quickly after a dieting phase, whether it's for a competition or not, is because they jump right back to eating the way they did before they started the diet. This gives the metabolism no time to adjust, and you quickly add that fat that you worked so hard to lose. If you're too aggressive, you may go beyond just increasing the size of your fat cells and even add NEW ones. Increasing your total count of adipose tissue cells is NOT what you want. This makes it harder and harder to lose weight in the future. (Layne Norton has an awesome video on this concept. DM me for the link).

One of my all-time favorite quotes: "Shock the body and it will react. Coax the body, and it will respond."

Just a little lesson on why extreme diets that have you to cut out an entire food group or macronutrient aren't going to yield the best results in the long run.

Just like anything, if it's quick and easy, it's probably no good.

Some on the spot form correction from the prodigy himself. As you will notice in the second video, I was doing almost a double lock in, bringing my hips too far down, causing me to have to set again once I brought them back up. Corrected by bringing them back, instead of down, as you can see the result in the first video.
Happy with working sets at 205 x5, who knows how many sets🤷🏼‍♀️ 8 days post NPC Figure stage, +6lbs from the beginning of peak week🙂

Comin at you with a mini story about why the scale is just data to observe objectively:

Last week my weight randomly jumped up 3ish pounds and stayed there. It annoyed me, but meh, whatever so be it. Welllll after getting hit with your normal female scheduled fun 🦈 it made more sense. Then, on Friday my friend had a goodbye happy hour for her last day, and I was there longer than I expected. I decided to move my lift to the next day, I had a drink, I ate some pizza (all tracked as always), I still did my cardio when I got home.

I woke up 3 pounds lighter 🤷‍♀️ so a little lighter than usual, and it stayed down. Byyyeeee water weight. Would it have gone back to normal if I hella stressed over it? Probably not, at least not as much. The worst thing you can do is make a knee jerk decision or over analyze day to day fluctuations. Cheeeellllllll outttttt. There's a TON of reasons to not get emotional over your weight, but figured I'd share this example since it happened recently.

Stop photoshopping abs that you don’t work for, go for something more believable, like yourself in space with your friends cat. Self love doesn’t come from a number on the scale, but the number of cats in your house.
story behind this picture : i was still on painkillers from shoulder surgery but walked on ice covered streets to my friends house and, unannounced, forced her to give me her sweater, picked up her roommates cat, made her take and photoshop this picture for me, then I went home.

REVERSE DIET update ⠀

Week 7.⠀

Over the past two weeks I have been pretty slack with tracking and have been ‘guesstimating’ all my snacking and picking on things which can quickly add up. I know I have been over my target, but I have definitely underestimated by how much. I have also not been as active with Football finishing up and I didn't get all my gym sessions done. As a result I am up 1.2kg on average... I definitely feel like I've got a bit extra around the hips 🙃⠀
I will keep my target macros the same and I will aim to accurately stick to it this week and see what happens. ⠀

I couldn’t have anticipated how sh*t I‘d feel during this rebound phase having never really completed a contest prep of this nature OR ever implemented any kind of ‘reverse diet’.
~
This whole week energy has only deteriorated further, sleep remains poor, readiness to approach the day pretty much non-existent...
~
In retrospect, this is where I think it may have been of benefit to employ a coach to provide guidance around dealing with the hormonal implications I presume may be leading to some of the above.
~
Not a post for sympathy, because you’ll likely have seen that I’m still dotting my i’s as I always do... not that I’m at all ‘hardcore’, because at this point I just hope I’m not being stupid.
~
But.. it’s a continual learning process as always, and I’ll continue to share insight into this phase as I think it could be even more valuable than the take-aways from the prep itself.

If you can’t manage your hunger, you can’t manage your fat loss. ❌

When dieting, increased hunger is inevitable.

It doesn’t matter what approach you take- your body doesn’t want to lose fat, and it will employ several tactics to sabotage your attempts. One of which is increasing your hunger levels.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If the bulk of your diet consists of fast food, gatorade, and protein shakes- you’re gonna have a bad time *Cue South Park*
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m as much of an advocate for flexible dieting as the next guy, but it’s often taken out of context and manipulated into meaning “Eat whatever the fuck you want and get shredded!”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yes, you should be flexible in your food choices- but your diet should still primarily consist of macro-friendly, micronutrient dense, high-satiety foods.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This gives you the best fighting chance against hunger, and extends the lifecycle of your fat loss phase.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And although how good a food tastes is negatively correlated with how filling it is, this doesn’t mean you’re stuck with only a few bland options to keep yourself full.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re crafty, you can come up with some pretty amazing recipes that are filling and VERY macro friendly. Zach over at @TheFlexibleDietingLifestyle is the king of this.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Whether you want to get fancy with recipes or keep it simple- you should always keep the fundamentals of high-satiety foods in mind.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This means high protein, high water content, and high fiber. If you follow these three guidelines for picking foods to eat, you’re going to have a much easier time dieting.

P.S. Don’t forget to treat yo self every once in a while. A life completely void of the foods you love, and the social experiences that often come with them, is bland itself.
