Did y'all know Differin is over the counter now?? I had no idea! Today when I went to my derm I asked her for a prescription retinoid since I'm no longer preg/breast feeding, and she said "Just go over to Target and get Differin." 😲 It's the exact same as the Adapalene (generic for Differin) I was using before I got pregnant and it's $12!! 😮 Ask any derm and they will tell you a retinoid is the #1 thing you can do for anti-aging http://liketk.it/2rarv #liketkit @liketoknow.it

I've been using this range for the last week and really like it. The cleanser contains pH correct Lactic Acid plus antioxidants. The moisturiser is great too but I'm really impressed with the Triple Action Protector which offers three layers of protection and is TINTED. ✔️ #elizabethardenpro #skincare #retinoids #antioxidants

TIP - 5 Important Ingredients in Face Moisturisers to look for;
No matter your skin type or age, here are the five essential components that should be in your daily face cream in order to help you maintain optimal skin health. Make sure to double check that label before making your next skincare purchase!
#Sun protection: This should go without saying, but sunscreen needs to be worn daily — and ideally, you should be slathering on an SPF of 30 for the best effects. Sun damage not only causes wrinkles, age spots and broken capillaries, but it can also turn deadly. No excuses, ladies.
#Antioxidants: actually work synergistically with SPF to further protect your skin from damaging UV rays. Antioxidants also fight free radicals, which are small molecules that disrupt healthy DNA of skin cells and lead to premature ageing.
#Retinoids: Retinoids are a form of highly effective vitamin A and include over-the-counter products like retinol and retinaldehyde, as well as prescription-strength retinoic acid like, Renova or Retin-A. Retinoids are the most well-researched and understood anti-aging ingredient — yes, there are nearly three decades of medical research behind their effectiveness. Retinol stimulates cell turnover, which in turn helps increase collagen production, It also helps with fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. If you’re worried about how this ingredient may react with sensitive skin, know this: The newer formulas are formatted differently than the old ones, meaning that they can penetrate your skin on a deeper level and don’t cause as much irritation as older versions.
#Peptides: These chains of amino acids act as messengers, signaling your skin to set off a series of various reactions that can lead to collagen production and elastin stimulation, among other good-for-your-skin actions that help slow the physical aging process. They are most useful at night when the skin is in renewal mode because they heal and regenerate the skin.
#Hyaluronic Acid: It’s a humectant that keeps the skin hydrated by drawing water to the skin. When the skin is dehydrated, its natural exfoliating enzymes stop working, leading to a build up of dead clogging skin cells.

What a difference a molecule makes! #thc and #retinoids both have their place in #medicine, but make sure that you're using sunscreen with the latter. These two ingredients just don't get along! 😕 If you've been layering your retinol right on top of your acid, you could be...
✦ Causing more irritation 😡
✦ Impairing the conversion of retinol to its biologically active form, retinoic acid (which happens best on non-acidic skin) 🔁
✦ Making your acid less effective (by bringing up its pH) ⬆️

Here are my top 3 skincare products from Canadian brand @deciem's The Ordinary. Available for purchase in the US from @beautylish (ships from SF so it is super fast for Bay Area folks). I love the Advanced Retinoid 2% for anti-aging, Alpha Albutin 2% + HA (Hyaluronic Acid) for brightening & moisturizing and an amazing eye serum - Caffeine Solution 5% + ECGC (compound from green tea leaves that works as an antioxidant). It's about $25 for all 3 of these products together! These serums are so affordable! You just need to mix and match to find what you need for your skin. Skincare Tips for Beginners Part 7

Retinoids

I will attempt to write briefly about this topic since I'll be writing a more extensive guest blog post for someone special soon!

Retinoids include retinol (vitamin A) and its derivatives. There are weak retinoids like retinyl palmitate and slightly stronger retinol. And then even stronger prescription retinoids like tretinoin (Retin A), tazarotene (Tazorac) and Adapalene (Differin, recently went non prescription in the USA). Prescription retinoid's role in skincare is a powerhouse for antiaging and acne treatment. It is antiaging because it causes cells to turn over much more quickly than without it and it promotes collagen production. If I could turn back time I would have started retinoids in my mid to late 20's. It is excellent for acne because it exfoliates deeply due to this rapid cell turnover. Because it is a "big gun" it can also wreak havoc on even tough oily skins. Havoc meaning redness, swelling, peeling, dryness, and sensitivity. For me the benefits have been smaller appearing pores, firmer skin with more bounce, fewer fine lines and wrinkles, and smoother skin. The brightening and evening of skin tone was not a prominent benefit of retinoids for me and I attribute those changes to other products in my skincare routine. Please note that retinol/retinoids are not considered safe in pregnancy or breast feeding.

My journey with retinoids started in an attempt to fade very severe hyperpigmentation. Jumping straight to tretinoin was too much for my sensitive skin despite my desire to also use it for its antiaging benefits. So I backtracked and started with weaker forms and made my way up to stronger formulations: Algenist Retinol Firming and Lifting Serum-->Somme Institute A Bomb-->Sunday Riley Luna-->Dr Dennis Gross Ferulic Acid + Retinol Brightening Serum-->The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2%-->Tretinoin 0.025%. I have also briefly tested Curology and Zelens Power A.

I'll be going into more detail in my future guest blog post but here are some basic tips for prescription strength tretinoin that worked for me. More in comments 👇🏻

Stuff that's currently on my face, featuring some things that are hard to get here 😣
My skin has recently changed from being mega oily to combination dry, so out goes the shine control stuff and in with the ultra hydrating creams that usually leave me like an oil slick at the end of the day.
@yesto_uk Yes To Carrots Day and Nighy Cream, I think I might have to trthe Coconuts because sometimes this isn't moisturizing enough.
@stivesskin Timeless Skin Collagen Elastin Moisturizer because I sometimes double moisturize and this just smells really good.
@thebodyshop @thebodyshopindo Vitamin E Intense Moisture Serum and Eye Cream. My eyelids are very oily but my under eye is extremely dry.
@neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 45, a recent find courtesy of @vsshopbeaute, liking it so far, lightweight and not greasy.
Last but not least, my Vitacid 0.05% Retinoid cream which I use maybe once a week at nighttime.
Don't forget to drink plenty of water!

Retinoids AKA Vitamin A is the one ingredient that has multiple functions when it comes to skin imperfections. It's one of my favorite ingredients, although it must be used with caution and should only be prescribed by a skincare professional. This wonderful ingredient can transform dull lifeless skin in no time. #retinoids #vitA #skinceuticals #theskinlab

Vitamin A is the only certified product, along with SPFs, that can claim to be Anti ageing. Worth picking this cream up here in Portugal (or Spain) for €2.89 in any Pharmacy. It is only available on prescription from a Dermatologist in the U.K. & Ireland costing £30/€37.50 🌟 #skincare #vitaminA #retinolA #retinoids #carolinehirons #littlegoesalongway #spfisamust #antiaging #otc #portuguesepharmacist #sourcedbybryn

Summer - yess! Pimples... OH MAN. I spoke to @HollywoodLife @Dorylarrabee about why we get summer acne and what we can do about it.
_______________________________________________________
Acne can worsen in the summer for lots of reasons – increased temperature, an active outdoor lifestyle, high humidity, and occlusive head gear can result in lingering sweat, dirt, and friction which can clog pores. I mean ...how many times have you told you to wear a HAT on my Insta?! 🙇🏻‍♀️... But yeah, often times, I do see a worsening of acne and folliculitis (body acne) during the summer months. Also, we're drinking more 🍾🍹🥂 Rose, beer, margaritas, sugary drinks and eating more ice cream and snacks. These high glycemic foods cause a spike in insulin levels, which in turn increase sebum production and further clogs pores. Grrrrrrr... _______________________________________________________

✨Keep fighting!!✨ #sợi_bã_nhờn #soibanhon #niacinamide #claymask #bha #aha #retinoids #retinol #tretinoin #vitaminA #mặt_nạ_đất_sét #sebaceous_filaments #skincare #dưỡng_da #dailyroutine #takeiteasy

#differingel (As stated on Differin.com):
Oil-free, fragrance-free Differin Gel contains the retinoid adapalene, the first new over-the-counter active ingredient for acne in more than 30 years. •Prevents breakouts blackheads, whiteheads, blemishes and clogged pores
•Restores skin tone and texture by clearing acne

Active ingredient: adapalene 0.1% (retinoid)
Inactive ingredients: carbomer 940, edetate disodium, methylparaben, poloxamer 182, propylene glycol, purified water and sodium hydroxide. May contain hydrochloric acid to adjust pH.

Thoughts: I believe my breakouts are due to my not so great diet, mild dehydration and gut issues. The breakouts are always concentrated on my chin area.
Since starting my skincare journey earlier this year, I devoted spending extra time learning about proper skincare, how ingredients help the skin and skin barrier and learning more about facial skin concerns in general.
Differin has helped in the frequency of my production of new acne. The acne that develops are healed rather quickly when spot treating with Differin. I have very textured skin and I'm still struggling with consistency of my skincare routine. Therefore, I haven't given Differin the proper time to help with evening out my skin texture. I appreciate the fact that there is no scent. The gel formulation quickly absorbs into my skin. And, its gentle enough for me to use on a daily basis. And the best part, I can jaunt over to my local Walgreens and purchase this without difficulty 🙌🏼
All in all - this stuff works for me for acne control. This will most likely be a staple in my skincare stash.

Summer pickin' before the heat. Apples grow here even when it's 120 outside! Ugh! #imissmybeach 💦💦An AZ apple a day keeps the wrinkles at bay! Small amounts of skin-brightening vitamin A are also found in apples, in the form of retinoids, which helps to build healthy skin and reduce the risk of skin cancer.

A single apple can contribute five percent of a woman’s daily requirements for vitamin A. They make a healthy quick snack when chopped, sprinkled with cinnamon and spread with almond butter, and are a delicious addition to sweet and savoury dishes.
