Strength training:
Strength trainings goal is to increase your strength or lean muscle mass. This mechanics of this is simple to understand. Imagine you are building a garden bed and lifting big rocks up, moving them, then squating down to place them into position. The muscles will tire and create little tears in the fibers.
The body being the clever instument it is thinks, hang on, I need to be stronger if I am going to do this again. So it repairs and makes the muscle stronger to be able to cope with future demands. This is what weight training achieves.
You can use different methods to stimulate and grow the muscle and focus on particular muscle groups or area's. So how much weight or resistance training should you do? It depends on the individual, their goals, their fitness and other factors. But generally, 3-4 times a week. Other factors to consider are: -Your experience
-Any postural issues -Any injuries.
Weight training not only provides strong bodies, but strong bones and minds. It's a great way to de-stress and provides a sense of achievement as you grow stronger & progress. It increases your metabolism due to the increase energy required to first repair the muscle then maintain the muscle.
I would always recommend getting advice from a trainer or following a program before you start. Good technique and form is essential.

Mulheres têm 6 vezes mais chance de desenvolver problemas no joelho, e a osteoartrose (OA) é o distúrbio articular mais frequente.
Segundo Focht (2005), o melhor tratamento para OA é o fortalecimento associado à perda de peso, mas o calçado também parece influenciar.
Kerrigan (1998), analisou 20 mulheres sadias utilizando SEUS sapatos de salto ou descalças.
O caminhar com saltos AUMENTOU a compressão no compartimento medial do joelho em 23%, o que pode, a médio e longo prazo, predispor a alterações degenerativas.
Em outra pesquisa, Kerrigan (2005) avaliou 29 mulheres jovens e 20 mulheres idosas sadias que usaram sapatos com e sem salto.
O pico de força aplicada ao joelho foi MAIOR com SALTO, sendo 14% em mulheres jovens e 9% em idosas.
Sendo assim, mulheres que querem evitar problemas ou que têm histórico de OA, devem controlar seu peso, fortalecer a musculatura e evitar ou reduzir a utilização de saltos.
