Another pic from my website. Thanks to the fabulous Fabio who sourced it when rebuilding my awesome site.
I asked for a pic with chairs because I love chairs. They have come to represent "having a seat at the table" or belonging.
In my 20's I transitioned, after being fired from a social services position (listen to my BIG WHY story on the services pages of my website to hear the details and my learning from THAT incident in my life), to the world of investment and securities. This was the 80's - time of greed and excess - and not a welcoming time for women in many workplaces. I was quickly promoted and managed a team of men and struggled to find my place - my seat at the table. I had a recurring dream that I have not had since 1991, after leaving that industry, wherein I would turn from some dark image to see a comfortable chair waiting for me. I can still see the image today as if I dreamed it last night. It gave me comfort that I never quite understood.... at least not for years. It struck me one day in late 1997 while watching a retrospective of Princess Di where old speaches she gave were incorporated and I heard her say (forgive me if my quote isn't precise), "Everyone needs to feel they belong." I heard that and the image from 10 years earlier in a dream came to my consciousness. Thet was why that visual in my dream comforted me.
While the 1st workshop in the system I'm launching in October is about developing a practice of resilience, the 2nd that is planned to launch in 2019 is on Belonging. When people know AND feel, in their bones, that they belong, their contributions to the workplace, family, community and country expand enormously. To live your best life and support others to do the same, you need to get snuggled into that welcoming chair and KNOW your presence matters and you belong.
You can register for October's workshop on resilience AND today I'm inviting you to come out to one of the #ASKROX RoundTables (see the link to the Eventbrite page in my profile). #belonging
