[Márquez prefers Bradl rather than Stoner as a Test Rider on the #Honda Team 🏁] MotoGP World Champion, Marc Márquez suggested that Honda maintain Stefan Bradl as a test driver, rather than trying to recruit Casey Stoner. Stoner, who won the MotoGP title with Ducati and Honda before deciding to retire in 2012, was a testing driver for the Borgo Panigale squad since 2016.
Ahead of the last 2018 race in Valencia, Ducati confirmed his separation from Stoner, which immediately led to speculation of the return of The Kuri-Kuri Boy to Honda.
However, #Marquez seemed to object to the option. According to him, Honda already has a capable testing driver, Stefan Bradl, his former rival in Moto2. “Of course, Casey has extraordinary talent. But if you want to be a test driver, you need to do many tests throughout the season. You also have to be able to [do the test] when the manufacturer wants you.” explained the seven-time World Champion. “This is not a question [the intensity of the test on Ducati], or what I hear. At present we have a good test driver, namely Stefan Bradl. I'll choose to keep it.” Last September, Stoner also complained about his role in the Ducati test squad. The 33-year-old man admitted to being frustrated after his input was ignored by people at Borgo Panigale.
In line with Márquez's comments, it's known that Honda, which will be reinforced by Jorge #Lorenzo next year, is satisfied with Bradl's performance so far.
However, Alberto Puig, as HRC's Team Principal, did not rule out the possibility of Stoner's reunion with Honda when asked for his statement in Valencia. “You know, before Casey was a Honda test driver. He also won the world title with Honda, we have memories and very good relations with him.” Puig added. “But for now we have Stefan, we are happy with him. However, of course we always open and consider that possibility. Right now we have Stefan, recruiting Stoner is not something we're considering. For now it's not, but I always open that [opportunity].” he said.
