Story time: Today I knew I would have an hour or two to detect a friend's 1840 house. I knew there had been a lot of work done to it but it seemed the front yard was mostly unchanged. After about 20 minutes I popped a great deep signal and got something I didn't recognize. All it took was a gentle wipe and brush to see the killer detail on this 1841 William Henry Harrison campaign token. The detail with the log cabin on the back is stunning. Apparently the date is in reference to his inauguration rather than the election year. Then I continued in the front yard but was only finding early 1900s stuff very deep, like a 1934 and a 1936 wheatie. As I'm digging a hole, the friend walks over with a neighbor who introduces himself and says he's a got a great untouched property from the 1740s, and that he's just scraped up the concrete from the basement and it's now bare dirt. Well, not wanting to let this chance slip, I scooted over to his place and decided to start in the basement, though I was skeptical. Sure enough despite the insane nails my first signal was an early 1800s cuff button, good sign. Then a shoe buckle frame right on the surface and another cuff button. Then the killer, an 1816 large cent right under the dirt! Next I moved on to the back which had been torn up extensively and picked out another flat cuff button, a pewter spoon handle, and what looks to be a gilded jewel or cameo setting. The owner said to come back at any time, and I sure will be going back to both houses. There are days more of detecting potential between the both. Just to find the time...

Been a few years since I pulled out the button cases and did some group shots. Hope you enjoy! #savinghistory #metaldetecting #relichunting #civilwar

I did find an old foundation tonight while chuck hunting and even found it on a 1873 map. I don't know who Jacob Buhl was but I hope he dropped a bunch of stuff or had holes in his pockets ! Looks like I know what I'm doing tomorrow !

Haven't been able to get out since last weekend so decided to make a little display for last years coinspill! 11 coins in one hole, all seated dimes, Indians, and a shield nickel!
