So after Penn State and USC gave us one of the most exiting bowl games in recent memories, with USC winning by a field goal (what the picture is), both of these programs had to come back from a lot of adversity.
Penn States is a little more known just due to the whole Sandusky situation, with him going from Penn State to the state pen. And legendary head coach Dom Paterno knowing about what he was doing and not telling anybody for the sake of the program. Which led to him having a stroke and dyeing. And it sent Penn State on the verge of collapse. Let's look at what was given to them
five years probation
four year postseason ban
vacate all wins from 1998-2011 $60 million fine
loss of 35 scholarships
For USC it was the whole Reggie Bush situation. As the NCAA believed him and USC basketball star O.J Mayo accepted gifts from agents. Which led to a lot of trouble for both stars. Let's look at what happens to USC
vacate final two wins from 2004 (including national championship)
vacate all 2005 wins (national championship runner ups)
two year postseason ban (2010-2011)
loss of 30 scholarships
Reggie Bush had to vacate his 2005 Heisman trophy.
USC was an inconsistent disappointment once the scandal came out. And Penn State was on the verge of collapse. Looking at things now, it looks like times are changing for both squads.
