The largest flow of modern African migration funnels through a single country — Libya. Migrants surge through Libya, which is a portal to the Mediterranean and safe heaven/promise land in Europe. Coming from the South, migrants flee the vestiges of wars that have left entire nations in ruin. From the east, they escape a life of indefinite military servitude and violent conflict. From the west, they evade destitution and governments that arbitrarily jail whomever they please. Some arrive by choice, others by force. But Libya is the purgatory where most migrants prepare to face the deadliest stretch of the Mediterranean Sea. The voyage from Libya across the Mediterranean to Italy is currently the main route to Europe for migrants, most on flimsy boats run by people traffickers and smugglers. #photojournalism ##seaeye #coverage #refugeecrisis #Mediterranean #photooftheday #pictureoftheday #documentary #documentaryphotography #featureshoot #feature #instagood #instaphoto #igerspoland #vscopolska #vscocam #vsco #vscopoland #vzcopolska #vzcopoland #vzcocam #vzco #refugees #searchandrescue #artofvisuals #reportagespotlight #libyanroute #istandwithrefugees #refugeeweek2018 #refugeeweek @seaeye_org

#chooselove we try to live by this - when being organised and together falls apart (most days) love is always there..! And in this case love means Marigold being a dog called Bebe Lulu and obeying Winnie’s every command 🐕🐕🐕 Love this by @lakwena in honour of 20 years of #refugeeweek

Playing with photos of Feleksan Onar's touching installation, "Perched" - on display in the Islamic gallery at the V&A in London. These beautiful glass swallows represent refugees as birds with clipped wings, unable to fly or move - grounded with nowhere to go.

#WorldRefugeeDay and #RefugeeWeek may be over, but our work isn’t.
Every day of the year we proudly stand with the mothers, fathers, children and all others in #Coventry and beyond that have been forced to leave their home.

People who just want an opportunity to rebuild their lives in safety and whom enrich our own lives in so many ways.
It’s a privilege to call you our friends and neighbours.

Beach Perspective (by Run: @giacomorun).
.
Sunday 12th we'll be looking for the #HackneyBeach again. But it's all relative. I know enough Hackney people who've volunteered in The Jungle in Calais and suchlike to never take a warm safe bed for granted again.
.
And just round the corner from here is the Fri venue for @hackneywinter night shelter.
.
So while we do perhaps live in The Society of the Spectacle, as outlined by Debord and probed by the Situationist International, we are still enormously privileged compared to so many.
.
1 in 6 of us are related to the Huguenot diaspora. So 1 in 6 of us at least have refugee heritage.
.
Of course The Spectacle relies on consumption. Consumption relies on oil. Oil causes wars. Wars cause refugees. It's all connected. All of it.
.
That's why I'm looking for wonder locally.

Our Refugee Health Coordination Nurse Georgia Green and Director of Allied Health and NDIS Danni Hocking recently attended Townsville Multicultural Support Group's (TMSG) Refugee Breakfast and Book Launch at the stunning The Ville Resort-Casino Pavilion. The event was held in celebration of Refugee week and TMSG's 25 Years of assisting migrants to Townsville. The book presented was titled Heartache, Strength and Hope, written by Paul Power, CEO of Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA). It takes readers on a journey through the history of TMSG and provides a historical account from Refugees in our region. Guest speaker Mi Mi Khaine also presented a very moving speech recalling her experience as a Refugee in Townsville. NAPHL offers refugee health services that complement the care provided by hospitals and GPs, for more information on our refugee services please visit \http://bit.ly/2Klglus #RefugeeWeek #Refugees #NAPHL #northernausprimaryhealthltd #TMSG

Thanks to @sadalsuudfoundation and the donations from people who want to bring some happiness to refugee kids, we had a great day taking them to one of Tripoli’s islands. It was the first time on a boat for most of the kids. Watching the girls have such a fun time made that day the best of all my time spent in Lebanon.
Thank you @brantstew for creating #sadalsuudfoundation and making a difference in the world and the lives of these young people. Link www.sadalsuudfoundation.org
