Of late, due to certain articles appearing in the media, there has been much controversy over the culling of grey squirrels in favour of our native red squirrels. There are many who believe that we have already lost the battle, and that we should just embrace the grey squirrel as it is stronger, and more adaptable. There are also many of us who strongly STRONGLY disagree with that. All this arguing had me feeling just a little bit down this morning. But... there I was, early, topping up squirrel feeders when I heard a squabbling noise above me. I looked up and saw the most beautiful red squirrel looking down at me. This squirrel made me smile and brought me hope. It reminded me why I put up with so much crap from antis and nay-Sayers.
It pushed me forward and made me even more determined. I will not give up on my mission to save our native species. I will strive to eradicate as many grey squirrels as I can.
I will fight for you Little Red! ⚔️🛡🗡 (apologies for the bad picture, the red squirrel was silhouetted against the sky line)
