It was such an honor to spend time with this beautiful, long-time friend of mine; sister in faith, and hostess with the mostest. She treated me to two weeks at her home on the #bigisland in #hawaii. We ate, played, and relaxed. I #snorkeled and tried all sorts of #tropical foods for the first time, including #spam 😖 I met lots of #jwfriends and was privileged to visit their #kingdomhall located on #ParadiseRoad 😊 My enthusiastic outdoorsman mentality surely wore her out but together we saw the most amazing, jaw-dropping gorgeous sights that we will carry on inside us forever. We #hiked 5 miles along the ocean on an exposed in-and-out to the elusive #greensandbeach. It's located at the #southernmostpoint of the #island. Getting there was a challenge due to hot temps, interesting terrain, and winds so fierce it pelted you with skin cutting sand! I then dragged her on an 8 mile nighttime "walk" over gravel and cooled #lava so we could see the active #lavaflow of #kalapana 2016. Seeing the devastation lava causes to anything in its path is humbling. Elaine has #neuropathy so her walk back was excruciatingly painful and its consequences long lasting; but her cheerful disposition never wavered and we were both mesmerized by the spectacular show our eyes feasted on watching hot lava hit the cold ocean water. It feels like we were gifted a once in a lifetime opportunity and we feel blessed. Elaine and I return home today. For me, I'm looking forward to seeing my husband and getting caught up with my work in #realestate. Unfortunately for Elaine, she returns to another series of #chemo that will once again claim her hair but never her spirit. Please keep Elaine and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Maybe also consider visiting her #smallbusiness, #RedRockSubs in #Everettwa to show your support. They truly are the best #sandwiches around.
