1,300 WOMEN and ME!!! Never had attended a Women's Conference. Yet, when asked to speak in Colorado about the youth in Watts Housing Projects, it was an honor to accept with no hesitation! It was humbling when my mentor (since high school) Chad Bruegman and lifelong friend Shawn Johnson joined on stage to ask me about the Community of Watts that I love so dearly. They set me up for success. All the women of the conference decided to make the youth in Watts their "National Focus" for impact! MY HEART IS ABOUT TO ERUPT thanks to Jill Johnson and Rachel Bruegman's leadership and generosity of all the women there. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I WASN'T PREPARED FOR THE PERSON I WAS ABOUT TO MEET... Diana Escobar (3rd pic) is visiting from Mexico and told me she is going to donate back to the kids in Watts from the re-selling of clothing business she has. She began to cry as she told me her husband in Mexico had called her today to threaten her to come back home. Her husband verbally and physically abuses her and has for years. She expressed how her daughter Michelle and son Matias need their mother. I feel like someone needed to rescue her as well and I wanted her to understand she is worthy of being rescued. I proceeded to tell her, "You are a princess and deserve to be treated nothing less. No man has a right to abuse you or your children. You are beautiful and strong regardless of any words spoken over you." It was honestly so hard to say goodbye because I felt like I was letting her walk into a lion's den. Mexico has its own set of laws and order. She asked me if I would pray for her. I wish I could tell you that everything was solved. Some things don't get solved as quickly as we hope and are extremely painful to walk through. I wish she chose not to walk back into that abusive setting but she felt she must go get her kids. I told Diana that not only would I pray, but I would post this and ask friends to pray for her safety and a peaceful resolution. That meant SO MUCH to her.
Moments like this I am truly blown away by the sacrifice, courage and strength of so many women... fighting their own battles while STANDING IN THE GAP for others. Pls pray 4 Diana.
