~~Way back, before I knew there was a way back, I had spent a long, grueling winter fending off the icy cold that sought to kill me and extinguish the life that was growing for the first time in my womb.
(this was like 22 years ago)
~~It took all of my strength, my every day persistence, all of my wit and resourcefulness to maintain the meager light of our souls against the all enveloping Yosemite Winter.
~~I fought the good fight for months.
~~Nevertheless, I eventually grew too tired, too weak and too apathetic.
~~So I came to the place where I surrendered. I succumbed, I made my peace with all of it and set about to find an altar in the forest to lay myself upon.
~~And that's where I came face to face with the Dogwood Flower, in a way I had never saw her before. She resurrected me.
~~I have had many profound Plant Spirit communications in my life but Flowering Dogwood will always be at the heart of all my everythings.
~~She's the hope and promise of the Return of Light, whiteness glimpsed in the darkest forests
~~She's The Crossroads, that place of Decision, that place where I chose life
~~She's Directionally Cardinal, unwaveringly oriented in her Sacred Path. She is the layer of steps toward Divinity.
~~She bears the cross of The Christed Heart, which is no small thing, but was something I had to remember, nevertheless.
~~I've never used Dogwood as an herbal remedy in any tea or tincture, so I have nothing to offer about it's practical applications.
~~Something's are simply All the Medicine just by being their own beautiful selves. And healing is possible just by witnessing their glory alone.
~~So is the way of Red Osier/Dogwood. A lamp unto my feet.
~~And that's plenty good enough medicine for me.
