Moose started his prey model raw diet today!! He is around 75lbs so he will be fed 30oz/day split into two meals, which is 2.5% of his body weight. The stomach pH of a raw fed dog is a bit lower than one on kibble. For the first few days, he’ll be fed boneless, skinless chicken breast to allow time for his stomach to adjust. .
Also in the bowl is homemade bone broth (chicken) which not only is loaded with vitamins and minerals, but the collagen will help soothe his gut lining and protect from inflammation, as well as a probiotic with digestive enzymes to give him an extra “boost” until his stomach becomes more acidic to break down the food.
He was not into the texture of the fresh raw, he licked out all the broth and left all the meat! 😩 I ended up offering him a bowl of frozen chunks which he happily scarfed down. ❄️ Not every dog will take to raw right away. It takes time, a few tricks, and some trial and error but the health benefits are endless so for us, it’s worth it... and now, we poo watch 💩🧐🍗🐾🦌
