I have been taking it easier in Sydney, relatively speaking. There has been lots of travel in the last 3 months and very little downtime or personal time. In Sydney I am not working on stories per se (although of course I am, I am just too interested to turn that off), but I am still eating out, often without my camera or notebook.
I headed to @ester_au last night for dinner and went with the tasting menu. It is exactly the kind of place that I love to find and eat at. Great food - inventive, curious, unexpected, deceptively simple, so tasty - very interesting wines by the glass, and the room and playlist were ace too. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and I want to go again.
Swipe across to see highlights and the menus. The opening dish of fermented potato bread with (for me, dairy free) a deeply gorgeous savoury jelly and aioli which showcased excellent technique and made me so excited for the meal to come. The potato pasta with potato dashi and pepper leaf was sublime also. It was all superb, no weak notes.
I won't get through my Sydney restaurant list this time but I am sure I will be back. I love it here, I feel very relaxed and I find it so easy to just be. Which sounds easy, right? The 5-5.30am wake ups are wearing thin, mind. I wake with the light and the birds. .
