Rosh Hashanah celebration, Persian style

Late this evening the doorbell rang. Yakir opened the door and it was our new next-door neighbor, David. "Please come to taste our ghormeh sabzi," he said.
It turned out to be a lavish Rosh Hashanah dinner, prepared by David's wife Pantea and some of her relatives.

The main course was ghormeh sabzi, which is perhaps the most popular Persian dish. It's made of cubes of meat cooked with a generous amount of herbs (usually parsley, cilantro, fresh fenugreek and tareh or leek greens), red beans, onion, garlic, turmeric and dried limes. One of the children said to us, "it doesn't look very pretty but it tastes so good!" Dried limes also flavored the savory yellow split pea and meat stew in a sauce flavored with tomato paste. Pantea's father told me this stew is called lapeh. Some use a longer name: khoresh-e-ghaymeh lapeh.

To go with the ghormeh sabzi and the yellow split pea stew, there were three kinds of rice, all of which came w ith a tahdig (rice crust): white Basmati rice); white Basmati rice with saffron-colored grains; and spiced rice with cumin, saffron and yellow split peas.

There were roast chickens too, served on a bed of fresh basil sprigs with fresh radishes; and more roast chickens stuffed with delicious rice flavored with cumin and saffron and studded with dried cranberries and barberries.

Getting a beautiful, golden tahdig (rice crust) like this takes skill

For many people, it is the highlight of Persian rice.

At the Persian-style Rosh Hashanah celebration, which we enjoyed at our neighbor's house,
there were three kinds of rice, all of which came with a tahdig: white Basmati rice; white Basmati rice with saffron-colored grains; and spiced rice with cumin, saffron and yellow split peas.

Chiffon cake à l'anko (la pâte de haricots rouges sucrés)◎ あんこのシフォンケーキ。

昨日のあんぱんの前に最初につくったもの。

シフォンにあんこを使ったのははじめてだったけど、キッチンに焼きたての優しい甘い香りがふんわり♡

最近真ん中がいつもうまく外せないから思い切ってはじめてナイフを使わずに手だけでいったらすごく綺麗にできてびっくり。

味見は今日義家族のおうちで。

These were really good.
Yoghurt Berries (first one) was he one I ate and yasss, it is so delicious. I absolutely loved the cute jelly things and the yoghurt was just the right amount of sweet and sour.
Second one was Matcha Green with Red Beans and I really liked it too, if you're wanting to chill and relax, that's the flavour to go to.
Manga mix with kiwis is the last one and honestly, it tastes like youth. It was so sweet it tingled my sweet tooth and ahh, I nearly stole the entire cup. 😂
Snow blends are from the shop called Smoothie Shop or Smoothie House. (I think it's somewhere in Jurong East)
