⚡QUICK REVIEW⚡ ONE OF US IS LYING by Karen M. McManus
Everybody described this book as The breakfast club meets Pretty little liars. Although I haven't watched PLL, I looove The breakfast club and that was why I jumped on this book as soon as I got the chance. And I loved it.
Five students are sent to detention. Only four of them get out alive. Who is the killer?
At first I had trouble remembering the names of everyone but after a while I managed to remember. To me, this had a feel of an Agatha Christie novel, in the sense that we have a murder mystery in a closed room, and someone has to be the killer. That was the only thing that was similar to Agatha, bc here we follow the story from the perspective of 4 teenagers that are pretending to be amateur detectives. I liked the development of the characters, bc although they started out as stereotypes, characters that can be seen in movies, they turned out to be much more. I think the reason I'm drawn to (some) YA stories is that their emotions are always heightened. They feel everything so much more. First love is the greatest love ever, friendships are forever, and you will die of embarrasment if something happens and you can never go back to school. Sometimes it's nice to remember that perios in your life (minus the murder).
As I said, I liked it, it's a good YA story, and it's a fast read. 😄
