Today marks the 200th year of Jane Austen passing. 200 years later the hashtag #janeausten200 is trending on social media, and England just released a new 10L note with her image on it. Incredible!! Meanwhile I'm just over here googling "did she drink tea or Coffee??!!!" Even in those times tea was such a big important item but coffee was sometimes just as prominent! Thankfully we find through her handwritten letters and her hints in her books that she was a big tea drinker and would in fact purchase it for her household. Back then it was very important to find the right kind because people would add all sorts of nasty stuff to the tea.
Here is a quote from an article about tea in her books: "At the center of almost every social situation in her novels one finds – tea," she writes. "In Emma, does Miss Bates drink coffee? Of course not: "Not coffee, I thank you, for me – never take coffee. – A little tea if you please." In Sense and Sensibility, what is everyone drinking when Elinor notices Edward's mysterious ring set with a lock of hair? Tea, of course. 💖And in Pride and Prejudice, what is one of the supreme honors Mr. Collins can envision Lady Catherine bestowing on Elizabeth Bennet and her friends? Why, drinking tea with her, naturally?"
My mom gifted me this teapot and cup on my birthday- more for photos or display because I'm not sure how well it would work actually using it. Yes the candle is the handle!!! Tea goes all the way through the book stack! It's awesome lol
The tea displayed is by Wick and Fable. Not only do they make fabulous candles but their tea smells so so so so good. Check out their shops for different flavors and cute tins!
I love the smell of both tea and coffee! What do you prefer?
