Change is necessary

No matter what you throw at it, if you do the same thing over and over your body will adapt and get used to it. To prevent hitting a progress wall, think about the best ways to mix up your training. This doesn’t mean a total revamp of your workout is necessary every time. A slight angle change here, a slight change in tempo, or rep ranges there, can all contribute to keeping the muscles challenged. There’s infinite ways to do this. Mix it up.

This was almost a year ago (100kgx10) when I first started deadlifting. It’s insane to think how much my form and strength improved over 6 months before I changed my training style.

Back in September I decided lifting heavy weights wasn’t an enjoyable way for me to move anymore (I still do weights every now and then when I feel like it, but it’s no longer my focus). I was so bored in the gym that I resented going. So what did I do? I didn’t stop going. Instead, I changed my training style. I changed to HIIT (high intensity interval training) and plyometrics based training because I wanted to be an absolute weapon! I wanted to be able to run fast, jump high, and push every physical ability I have to be an absolute ninja!

Basically all I’m saying is moving your body should be fun! You shouldn’t have to struggle to move your body, and if you do, you’re moving wrong! What you need to do is find something that excites you! I guarantee when you find something that excites you, you won’t have to be ‘motivated’ to do it.

Tuesday Tip for maximum muscle growth: Put your mind in the muscle.

Train your brain to focus on the muscle you are working. Put your mind into it, and really ‘feel’ the contractions and extensions. This will trigger greater muscle fibre activation and lead to more progress with your muscle development. This is also useful to help you overcome imbalances, as you become more aware and in control of the forces applied by your muscles.

Mentally it's a struggle. I don't like the fact I am now a small not an extra small (stupid I know but after this long it's a hard). I love the fact I am gaining healthy weight and muscle.

Mondays fuel. When work is in full swing, breakfast usually happens between 8 and 11am. To give my body a break from food (and to allow myself a little more sleep) I'll typically put breakfast off until I get home from work. Today it consists of 4 eggs, cooked in olive oil, and a sprinkle of walnuts.
