I failed to get to this post this yesterday as our Friday ritual of The Album of The Week. This week is the wonderful sounds of R. Crumb And His Cheap Suit Serenaders. I was a fan of R Crumb's artwork since my early childhood thanks to my father. Dad also introduced me to the music he made and I've been hooked ever since. Naturally I'm a sucker for any albums that use a handsaw for an instrument. So what are YOU listening to?
I've said it before and I'll say it again... #thecomic is everything I love... when I did this first issue I made the choice to do the entire book the size of a standard comic... meaning... I drew it all very small using pens and markers. I made the choice to go small because I wanted the first issue to feel personal... like writing in a journal or diary.... I looked, listened and thought about #nirvana and other 90s music, #rcrumb#jackkirby#teenagemutantninjaturtles#spiderman and #creaturefromtheblacklagoon while I drew among other things... I thought of little and big experiences I had and wanted to use in some sort of way... I have lots of "jokes" that I wanted to tell... painful and silly ideas... anyway... I do all this because art is a process it's what I hate and love about doing it. Love because it never stops... it's impossible not to improve and learn is you truly commit.... hate because it take so many patience and sometimes I just want to be where I want to be. Anyway... I love this page... the pitch page... selling at shows! I had never even tabled at the time I drew this so this was all just how I thought it would be being a fan myself and talking to creators at shows... so yeah... enjoy... this was fun. #comics#makingcomics#matthewskillern#skillfulstudios#indiecomics#passion#love#creatorowned#selfpublished#ink#inking#blackandwhiteart#comicpage
