This is a post I never thought I would make...never WANTED to make...but recently I’ve felt God calling me to share this with you all. To share my journey...my past...as painful and hard to see as it’s been. This won’t be like my usual posts—it’s not a happy story. But it’s my story...and just like He always does, God has brought beauty from my ashes.
As most of you know, I’ve struggled with my health from the time I was born. I went vegetarian when I was 9 years old, and vegan when I was 16, in an effort to try and heal my chronic, severe (frequently debilitating) digestive issues. I went from doctor to doctor with no answers for years, so I took matters into my own hands and began focusing on natural health and nutrition. My digestion was just starting to get really bad around my 17th birthday, and within the span of 6 months, I lost 40 pounds without trying to or changing my diet at all. As if this weren’t scary enough, other stuff started happening too—my hair started falling out, my muscles were incredibly weak and would spasm when I would walk, I was getting sick ALL the time, and I stopped being able to go to the bathroom...at all.
As the months passed, I kept losing more and more weight—I was nauseous all the time, and food would either go straight through me, or I would go for weeks at a time without being able to eliminate. I was progressively getting sicker and sicker...and things were getting scarier and scarier.
During this time I, as the infinite optimist I am, had continued trying to promote health and wellness by starting a vegan food blog. I had an Instagram account and was accumulating a pretty large following. I was still trying to spread joy and health even though I was suffering immensely inside...Simultaneously, we were still running to doctors every week trying to figure out what was wrong with me. As you can see from the above photos, I looked horrible...I was scary skinny and getting thinner by the day. I couldn’t digest virtually anything, and I was getting more and more backed up in my abdomen and colon.
