This beautiful Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake made my day. Sometimes people refer to snakes in this posture as aggressive, but this snake is in fact acting defensively because it perceives me as a threat. Its eyes are on me and its rattle buzzes in warning as it slowly backs away. No aggression here, just a silly snek that really wants to be left alone. After a few photos, I took the hint and left it be. As soon as my eyes were off it and it felt safe, it bolted on its way. #crotalusadamanteus#easterndiamondback#edb#diamondback#rattlesnake#snake#venomous#wildlife#nature#everglades#florida
What they don't tell you in Goshawk Survey School. Timber Rattlers are more common than I realized. They bring a certain anxiety as you step through the forest of Pennsylvania or walk among the boulders. They are not aggressive but one misstep where you nearly step on one could lead to a strike, and some this is something I strive to avoid particularly when I am far from my car in a place where only loggers go this time of year. #rattlesnake#timberrattlesnake#mikedupuyfalconry#lifeofthefalconer
A Western Diamondback Rattlesnake that wanted in my kayak today! I can read snakes well on land and I read this snake because it had honed in on me twice, but what you don't see is the snake 5 feet behind my kayak as I was paddling 200 mph to get away!!! I can assure you snakes are much faster on water than land and my heart was pumping!!! I'm thankful I escaped because my idea of a good fishing day does NOT involve a hitchhiking rattlesnake in my kayak!! And what set this snake off? I caught a fish too close to his location. Go figure!
