#ncnativeplantweek Day 4: Starting the morning off right with Aconitum uncinatum! Commonly called southern blue monkshood, this NC S3 plant is typically found along shady stream banks. This one was found near Pitcher Creek in late summer. The foliage is distinct, with 3 or 5 palmate lobes and coarsely toothed apices. The roots and seeds contain poisonous alkaloids that were supposedly used by Romeo to commit suicide. Poisonous or not, it doesn't take much to appreciate this thing of beauty!
