JEDDAH, May 27: Is the start of holy month of Ramadan, the Supreme Court announced on Thursday, Arab news reports said.

The crescent moon was not sighted on Thursday and so fasting will start Saturday. “The moon will be out/disappear on the entire Islamic world, Thursday and, based on this, there is no crescent,” astronomer Khalid Al-Zaaq, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences said in a series of tweets.

He added that this year’s Ramadan will begin and end on a Saturday, which makes it a 29-day month. “(Ramadan) will have four Fridays,” he added. #ramdan🌙

Ramazan Moon Sighting In Saudi Arabia On Thursday.
RIYADH: The Saudi Supreme Court has called on all Muslims throughout the kingdom to sight the moon of the holy month of Ramazan on Thursday evening, Sha’ban 29, 1438 H (May 25).
In its announcement, the Supreme Court called on whoever sights the crescent by naked eyes or through binoculars to report to the nearest court and register his testimony, or report to the authority of the region’s centre in his area where he sighted the crescent to facilitate his reaching the nearest court, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
If the moon sighted, the Saudi Arabia, UAE and some North African countries will start observing Ramazan from May 26 (Friday). #ramdan🌙 #ramdankareem
