Meena Kumari, Honey Irani and Rajendra Kumar in Chirag Kahan Roshni Kahan (1959).
Meena Kumari was known to love children, but had felt that sometimes there was a lack of authenticity of feeling in the performances of child artists. So, when she had to shoot for this particular movie, she requested director Devendra Goel to find a well-trained child with whom she would have some chemistry.
The director, after much hardwork found two and half year old Honey Irani for the role, and suggested that she stay with Meena Kumari for some time to develop a familial bond. After getting the node from Irani’s mother, Honey stayed with the actress for about four weeks before the shoot and also while the shoot was underway. Guess what happened ? The child became so attached to Meena Kumari that once the shooting was over, she refused to go back home and only agreed to do so after much persuasion!
Both Honey and her sister Daisy were successful child artists. It was they who flagged off the trend of black curly hair, loose shirts and half pants in Hindi cinema. Honey, at the age of 18 bid farewell to her acting career and married #JavedAkhtar whom she met on the sets of 'Seetha aur Geetha'. Javed was still a struggling scriptwriter while the marriage happened. The couple was blessed with Zoya and Farhan, who are present day successful film makers, directors and actors of Bollywood.Though the marriage fell on its death trap in the 80s, Honey managed to make a second career for herself as a scriptwriter with film such as #Lamha, #kyakehna and #koimilgaya. In 2003, she directed her first film 'Armaan' which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Gracy Singh, and Randhir Kapoor. Screened at the Cannes Film Festival, the film marked the debut of #PreityZinta as a villain. It is also the first film in which #AmitabhBachchan and #AnilKapoor appeared together on screen.
