The sun rises behind @cstrombeck and @tylermcnish on the Emmons Glacier of #mtrainier this weekend. Spring storms had left the east side of the mountain deserted. On Friday we ascended 5,100ft through National Park Forest, across avalanched hillsides, and up untouched Glacier basins, to dinner and a few hours sleep at #campschurman (9,500ft). At 3am we started breaking trail up the Glacier, often pushing through knee deep snow. We saw bottomless crevasses (some of us saw them quite well) and towering seracs crashing thousands of ft below. We also saw my water bottle and a prized #starbucks via fly off into the abyss 😒. 8,500 ft above our starting point we made the heartbreaking decision to turn back. Always deeply humbling and powerful to spend time up high - and awesome to return with everyone safe.
