Collecting raindrops (or fairy jewels as they are otherwise known in our house) for potion-making is a very serious business indeed.
It is also, as it turns out, a perfect rainy day activity, because the mizzle creates fairy jewels all over the place... To have this much serious fun yourself, all you need is lots of random tiny tubs and bottles, somewhere like a park or forest to visit, and a big dollop of imagination. If you're feeling especially generous, you could throw in 50p per child to buy an appropriate cup/glass/candle-holder from the charity shop in which to mix your fallen leaves/petals/acorns/grass/puddle water/berries potion, in order to make the magic extra special. Some potion signage is also recommended. Along with nice smelling spices, hot and cold water, and some grandparents to assess which potions will make it into the famous "Hall of Potions". Be prepared to do a lot of mopping up when they get mixing, but all in all, that's a rainy day well spent!
