Day 47 of 365 - The temple vet came down this morning with a film crew to record the volunteer program and the day-to-day tasks. It was odd having a camera in my face all morning (especially during breakfast) and daily tasks took longer than usual as we kept getting called to film segments (e.g. preparing chicken, walking the older cubs). Besides that, one of the pros was helping the vet give the three 3 month-ers their vaccines and getting them microchipped. It was horrible seeing the cubs pinned down screaming while they were injected, we made sure they felt extra loved after those. Once they were chipped, we scanned their neck with some 'remote control device thing' and a number came up, which is specific to that tiger. Many of the staff here can identify all 143 tigers from only a headshot of them (which is super-impressive), however microchipping them at 3 months is vital in identifying the tigers during future inspections. The whole process took about 15mins and it was a pleasure to be a part of it.
After 2 weeks of being bite-free I have noticed the last few days I have been bitten on my legs and arms. I made a deal with the spiders all over the bedroom walls on my arrival - they can stay provided they keep the room mosquito/bug free. I will try and re-negotiate new terms before I get the broom... #tiger #temple #tigertemple #kanchanaburi #thailand #southeastasia #travel #backpacking #volunteer #inspection #microchipped #vaccine #raibes #injection
