Say hello to the ”County”, my first ever 90 with a proper roof, yay! It has a bunch of exterior upgrades, as seen in the images, plus lifted suspension and double ARB diff locks. Well, that’s a good start but…when I look at this I’m thinking ”Desert Racer”! 🤠
So, a quick list of things to be carried out:
Remove all unnecessary / heavy accessories and other stuff that will limit the Defender from going fast through rough terrain. Roof rack, towbar and winch have already been taken off. Same is going to happen with the snorkel, mainly because it doesn’t go with my thought of design and since I won’t be fording any deep rivers…
I like the idea of re-using so might stick with the 235/85R16 AT tires on new wheels and the current (upgraded) suspension that is far better than original - and possibly remove the front diff lock to be installed on another vehicle.
What else? Power! A full tweak of the 300tdi engine with intercooler, turbo etc and an auto gearbox conversion.
For the interior I need to remove the rear bulkhead for more leg room and replace the seats with something more comfortable. Add sound deadening / insulation throughout the vehicle and perhaps some kind of overland cargo solution in the back?
Top it off by replacing the rear side windows with hard top sides and give the Defender a desert paint.
That should be about it! I have to admit it wasn’t even in my wildest dreams to be able to carry out such a conversion when I got my first Land Rover some ten years ago…let’s see what we’ll end up with!
